About the Galataport cruise terminal
Galataport Istanbul opened in 2021 on the site of the old Karaköy and Salıpazarı quays, a 1.2 km strip of waterfront between the Galata Bridge and Tophane. Its passenger terminal is built underground: passengers check in and clear passport control below the public promenade, and the quay above stays open to the city when a ship is alongside. The development includes shops, restaurants and the Istanbul Modern museum, and The Peninsula Istanbul hotel occupies restored buildings at its western end.

Embarkation-day drop-off
Cars cannot drive onto the promenade. Pre-arranged vehicles use the terminal's vehicle entrance and drop-off area, where luggage is handed to the terminal staff for screening. The streets of Karaköy and Tophane are narrow and busy, so the chauffeur approaches along the Kemeraltı and Meclis-i Mebusan avenues. Arrive at the start of your check-in window; boarding usually closes two hours before sailing.
Disembarkation: meeting the car
After passport control and baggage claim underground, follow the signs to the ground transportation area for pre-arranged vehicles. The chauffeur waits there, not inside the terminal. Schedule the car for 30-45 minutes after your group's disembarkation time, since passport control and screening happen underground first. Fifteen minutes of waiting come with every port pickup; beyond that, time is billed in 15-minute blocks. If you want to be met at the exit with your name on a board, add meet and greet; add-ons are only available in selected locations.

Istanbul Airport is the main international hub, north of the city near the Black Sea; Sabiha Gökçen serves many low-cost and regional flights. Both pickups are flight-tracked, with 60 minutes of included waiting from the actual landing on international arrivals and 30 on domestic ones, at the airport's designated pickup area. Istanbul traffic is unpredictable: for flights home, allow three and a half hours between the ship's arrival and a European departure from IST, and four and a half for long-haul or for SAW. Hotels before and after your Istanbul cruise
The Peninsula Istanbul is inside Galataport itself. Along the Bosphorus, the Çırağan Palace and the Shangri-La sit 10-20 minutes from the terminal; in the old city, the Four Seasons Sultanahmet is a short drive across the Galata Bridge. Galata, Cihangir and Karaköy hotels are within walking distance of the terminal, but not with cruise luggage on cobbled hills. Port-day private tours
An hourly chauffeur, minimum three hours, gets you over the Golden Horn to Sultanahmet in 15-25 minutes for Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Basilica Cistern. Longer bookings add Topkapı Palace (closed on Tuesdays), the Grand Bazaar (closed on Sundays) or Dolmabahçe Palace on the Bosphorus shore. Galataport fares are fixed and include car, chauffeur, taxes and waiting as above. No fee applies if you cancel more than 72 hours before pickup, while 10 % applies at 72 hours or less, 50 % at 48 hours or less, and the full fare at 24 hours or less or on a no-show. See rates. Driving realities in Istanbul
Turkey drives on the right. Istanbul is a city of 16 million people on two continents, and three road crossings of the Bosphorus plus the Eurasia tunnel carry most of the traffic between them, most of them tolled. Weekday rush hours run long, roughly 07:00-10:00 and 16:30-20:00, and Friday afternoons are heavy. Chauffeurs time airport runs around these peaks where they can. The streets around Karaköy, Galata and the old city are steep and narrow, with tram lines on some of them, so larger vans may stop at the nearest permitted point and walk you the last metres.
