The cruise facility at Pointe Blanche
Port St. Maarten runs the cruise and cargo piers on the eastern side of Great Bay, about 1.5 km from Front Street in Philipsburg. Several large ships can berth at once, and winter is the busiest season. The pier area has shops and a taxi dispatch zone at the landward end. Most visits are port calls; a few smaller-ship itineraries begin or end here.
Meeting your driver
After you walk the length of the pier and pass the port's security exit, taxis are organised by a dispatcher and pre-booked vehicles collect from the area the port designates for them. The driver messages the meeting point before you dock. Busy mornings with five or more ships mean slow traffic on the road out of Pointe Blanche, so a few minutes' patience helps.

From the pier to Front Street
Philipsburg's shopping street and the Great Bay boardwalk are about 1.5 km from the cruise facility. Many passengers walk it in 20 to 25 minutes along the waterfront, and water taxis cross the bay from the pier to the boardwalk. If you have booked a tour, your driver can start or finish it in town so you have time on Front Street before returning to the ship.
Two nations, one island
Sint Maarten, the Dutch side, and Saint-Martin, the French side, share the island with an open border; there is no passport check when you drive between them. The French side uses the euro, the Dutch side commonly accepts US dollars. Marigot's market, Grand Case's restaurants and Orient Bay's beach are all on the French side and make easy tour stops.
Airport runs to SXM
For passengers leaving or joining a ship here, SXM is the gateway, with many direct flights from North America and Europe. Include your flight number: pickups are timed to the actual landing with 60 minutes of included waiting on international arrivals. Standard pickup is at the airport's designated area for pre-arranged cars; an arrivals-hall welcome with a name board is an add-on in selected locations only. Island tours from the ship
Hourly tours start at 3 hours through the hourly chauffeur service. A classic half-day runs west past Simpson Bay to Maho, where aircraft land just over the beach, then over the border to Marigot and Fort Louis, back via the viewpoint above Orient Bay. Others focus on Grand Case lunch or a quiet beach at Mullet Bay. Plan to be back at the pier an hour before all-aboard.
Turnaround days and luggage
When a voyage begins or ends in Philipsburg, bags go through the port's handling area at the landward end of the pier, and the car collects you beyond the security exit. Book the pickup for your disembarkation time; the chauffeur knows the ship and adjusts if the docking is delayed. For an afternoon flight, a short stop at Maho or a lunch in Simpson Bay on the way to SXM is easy to add, with the cases locked in the vehicle.
When to visit
The high season runs from December to April, when the pier sees the most ships and the roads the heaviest traffic. Summer is quieter and hotter. The Atlantic hurricane season lasts from June to November, and storms can divert ships or close the airport, so keep your booking details handy in case the dispatch desk needs to re-time a transfer.

Fare, waiting and cancellation
The fixed fare includes the vehicle, the driver and 15 minutes of waiting from the booked time at the pier; extra waiting is billed in 15-minute blocks.
