Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM)
SXM sits on the Dutch side at Simpson Bay, its runway ending at Maho Beach. The terminal was rebuilt after Hurricane Irma, and the fully reconstructed building was formally reopened in November 2024. Standard pickup is curbside at the designated pre-arranged pickup area outside arrivals. The chauffeur messages the vehicle details once your bags are off. A name-board meet and greet in the arrivals hall is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Private flyers use the separate general aviation terminal on the airport site; tell us the tail number and handler when you book.
Every arrival is flight-tracked and the chauffeur is timed to the actual landing. Most SXM flights come from North America and Europe, so they count as international: 60 minutes of waiting are included from landing, then 15-minute blocks. Current airport notices are on the SXM airport site.
Entry: the digital ED form
Since October 2024, everyone flying into or out of SXM must complete the digital embarkation and disembarkation form at entry.sx before check-in. Have the confirmation ready at immigration. Arriving by air on the Dutch side and staying on the French side is normal; there is no border check between the two halves of the island.

The island is small, about 87 square kilometres, but traffic is slow. The Simpson Bay lagoon bridges open for boat traffic at set times, and Cole Bay and the Bush Road approach to Philipsburg jam at school and office hours. Allow an extra 20 minutes for any departure you cannot miss.
Port St. Maarten cruise days
Ships berth at the Port St. Maarten cruise facility at Pointe Blanche, about ten minutes by road from Front Street in Philipsburg. On days with several large ships in port, the road out of the pier and the Philipsburg ring road back up. We meet at the port's designated transport area, not at the gangway. Popular shore-day patterns are a half-day island loop by the hour, a drop at Orient Bay or Maho, or a transfer to Marigot for lunch. Villas, resorts and the French side
Resort pickups cluster around Maho, Cupecoy and Simpson Bay on the Dutch side, Dawn Beach and Oyster Pond on the east, and Baie Longue, Grand Case and Orient Bay on the French side. Terres Basses villas sit behind a gate; your chauffeur needs the villa name and the gate instructions. Grand Case is known for its restaurant strip, and evening round trips there are a natural fit for hourly chauffeur service, since parking on the boulevard is scarce. Ferries to St. Barts and Anguilla
Many SXM arrivals are passing through. Ferries to St. Barthélemy leave from Philipsburg and from Marigot, and boats to Anguilla run from Marigot and from Simpson Bay. Which vehicle to choose
A Standard Sedan suits a couple with two cases. An executive SUV is the usual pick for families and dive or golf bags, and it copes with the steep drives up to hillside villas. A Standard Black SUV or Sprinter carries a wedding party or a villa group with all its luggage in one move. Stretch limousines and Rolls-Royce, Maybach or Bentley are partner vehicles supplied where available. Classes and seat counts are on the fleet; fare inclusions are on rates. Private jets, yachts and crew
Simpson Bay lagoon is one of the eastern Caribbean's main superyacht hubs, with marinas inside the lagoon reached through the bridge channels. Crew rotations timed to SXM flights, provisioning runs and guest arrivals at the marina gate are common jobs; multi-car crew changes are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing (see shipping and crew change). For private aircraft, the chauffeur waits at the general aviation terminal exit or goes where the handler allows. Driving on the island
Traffic drives on the right on both sides. Roads are narrow, often without shoulders, with speed humps through villages and roundabouts at Simpson Bay and Cole Bay. Chauffeurs who work the island daily know which hours to avoid the causeway and which villa driveways need a smaller car.
Events that shape the calendar
The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta is usually held in March and fills Simpson Bay hotels and marinas. Carnival on the Dutch side usually runs from late April into May, with parades in Philipsburg that close streets. December to April is peak season, when booking a few days ahead is sensible. Changes and cancellation
More than 72 hours before pickup, cancelling costs nothing. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less or on a no-show 100%. A late flight is covered by tracking and never counts as a no-show.
