Where is the Wusongkou cruise terminal?
The Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal is in Baoshan district, on the south bank where the Huangpu River meets the Yangtze, about 30 km north of the Bund. It is the city's main terminal for large ships, with a long quay able to berth several ships and a large terminal building for check-in, customs and immigration. It is far from the airports, so journey planning matters more here than at most ports.
Shanghai also has the smaller Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal on the North Bund, close to the city centre, used by a few smaller ships. Your documents name the terminal.
Lines that sail from Shanghai
Since international cruising restarted in 2023, Wusongkou has been the base for Adora Cruises, whose Adora Magic City was the first large cruise ship built in China, and has seen ships from MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean on itineraries to Japan and South Korea. Schedules change by season; sailings run most of the year, with typhoon season (about July to September) occasionally changing itineraries.
Embarkation day at Wusongkou
The chauffeur drives to the terminal forecourt and stops at the set-down lane for private cars; porters and the line's staff take tagged cases. Chinese immigration is completed in the terminal before boarding, so arrive at the start of your check-in window with your passport and any visa documents ready. From the Bund, allow 40-60 minutes; from Lujiazui in Pudong, 45-70 minutes.
Disembarkation and the pickup area
After the ship berths, passengers pass immigration and customs in the terminal and exit to the transport area. Pre-arranged cars wait in the private-vehicle pickup zone, separate from the taxi queue and the coach park. Your chauffeur waits there. Set the pickup 30-45 minutes after your group is called. Fifteen minutes of waiting from the booked time are included; after that, 15-minute blocks apply.

Most international flights land at Pudong; domestic and some regional flights use Hongqiao. Airport pickups are flight-tracked, with 60 minutes free after an international landing and 30 after a domestic one. For a flight after disembarking, allow four hours for Pudong and three for Hongqiao. Hongqiao Railway Station connects to high-speed trains to Beijing, Hangzhou and Suzhou. Entry and visa notes
China has widened visa-free entry in recent years, including transit visa-free stays and arrangements for cruise groups, but the rules depend on nationality and itinerary. Check current requirements with the National Immigration Administration or your line before you travel, and carry your passport for the car journey.
Hotels before and after the cruise
Few luxury hotels are near the terminal in Baoshan, so most guests stay central. On the Bund, The Peninsula, the Waldorf Astoria and the Fairmont Peace Hotel are 40-60 minutes from Wusongkou. The Bulgari near Suzhou Creek and the Pudong towers (Park Hyatt, Four Seasons, J Hotel) take 45-70 minutes. Allow extra time on Friday evenings and Monday mornings.
Port-day and stopover tours
Book an hourly chauffeur for three hours or more:
- Classic Shanghai. The Bund, Yu Garden and the old city lanes, then Lujiazui's observation towers.
- Former French Concession. Tree-lined Wukang Road, Tianzifang and Xintiandi.
- Water towns. Zhujiajiao, about an hour west of the centre, for a half day.
- Suzhou gardens. A full day about 1.5 to 2 hours from Wusongkou.

Traffic and roads in Shanghai
China drives on the right. The elevated ring roads and the S20 Outer Ring are fast off-peak and slow from about 07:30 to 09:30 and 17:00 to 19:30. Chauffeurs rely on local navigation, so a Chinese-language address in the booking notes helps.
