The Osanbashi terminal and Yokohama's other piers
The Osanbashi Yokohama International Passenger Terminal is a long pier reaching into the bay beside Yamashita Park, a short walk from Chinatown and the Motomachi shopping street. Its terminal building has a wooden, wave-shaped rooftop deck open to the public, and the check-in and immigration halls sit below it. Two large ships can berth on either side.

Daikoku Pier is an industrial site with fewer facilities and a longer walk to the kerb, so tell us if your ship is assigned there. The City of Yokohama Port and Harbor Bureau runs the piers.
Who sails from Yokohama
Yokohama is Japan's leading cruise gateway to Tokyo. Princess Cruises bases ships in Japan for seasonal domestic cruises, NYK Cruises homeports its Asuka ships here, and Holland America, Celebrity, Cunard and MSC Cruises call on Asian itineraries. Spring (cherry blossom, late March to April) and autumn are the busiest seasons.
Embarkation at the pier
On sailing day the chauffeur drives along the pier approach to the terminal's car set-down, where the line's staff receive tagged luggage. Japanese departure immigration takes place in the terminal, so arrive near the start of your check-in window. From Minato Mirai hotels, allow 5-10 minutes; from Tokyo Station or Ginza, 40-60 minutes; from Haneda on the day, 25-40 minutes.
After the cruise: meeting your car
When the ship docks, passengers pass immigration and customs in the terminal, then exit to the ground transportation area on the pier, where taxis, coaches and pre-arranged cars wait. Your chauffeur waits there. Most ships start disembarking about an hour after arrival. Book for your group time plus 30 minutes; the booking includes 15 minutes of waiting, then 15-minute blocks.
Phone or text the chauffeur when the suitcases are with you. With the meet and greet add-on, where offered, the chauffeur meets you at the exit with a name board; add-ons are only available in selected locations.

Haneda is much closer than Narita, so if you have a choice of flights, prefer it. Airport pickups are flight-tracked, with 60 minutes of free waiting after an international landing and 30 after a domestic flight. For a disembarkation-day flight, allow three hours for Haneda and four to five for Narita. Private jets are met at the Haneda business aviation terminal. Travellers heading on by shinkansen can be dropped at Tokyo Station or Shin-Yokohama.
Where to stay before or after
The Hotel New Grand faces Yamashita Park and the pier. In Minato Mirai, the InterContinental Yokohama Grand, the Westin Yokohama, the Kahala Hotel and the Yokohama Royal Park in the Landmark Tower are 5-10 minutes away. Many passengers stay in Tokyo instead; Marunouchi, Ginza and Shinagawa hotels are 35-60 minutes from the terminal.
Private tours on a Yokohama port day
With an hourly chauffeur (minimum three hours), consider:
- Kamakura. The Great Buddha at Kotoku-in, Hase-dera and Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine.
- Yokohama itself. Sankeien Garden, Chinatown, the Red Brick Warehouses and the Cup Noodles Museum.
- Hakone and Fuji views. Lake Ashi and the Owakudani valley on a clear day; a full day.
- Tokyo highlights. Asakusa, the Imperial Palace East Gardens and Shibuya, on a long port day.
