How to book a car from Haneda

Haneda's three terminals
Haneda is the closer of Tokyo's two main airports, on reclaimed land in Ota ward on Tokyo Bay. Details are on the official Haneda Airport site.

A free shuttle bus links the terminals, and the Keikyu and Tokyo Monorail lines stop at each. Your flight number in the booking tells the chauffeur which terminal and exit to use; ANA international flights can arrive at either Terminal 2 or Terminal 3.
Where does the chauffeur meet me at Haneda?
Pickup is at the designated hire-car (charter vehicle) area outside your terminal's arrivals level, which is separate from the taxi rank and the bus stops. When you have your bags and have cleared customs, contact the chauffeur, who tells you which door and bay number to go to. Japanese airport regulations keep hire-car drivers in their allocated bays, so the chauffeur does not come into the arrivals lobby by default.
For a greeting in the arrivals lobby with a name board, add meet and greet. Add-ons are only available in selected locations, and the booking engine shows whether it can be added at your Haneda terminal and time.
Immigration, customs and Visit Japan Web
Japan's immigration and customs at Haneda are orderly and usually quick. Most arrivals are through in 20 to 40 minutes, although queues grow in spring cherry-blossom season and around Golden Week in late April and early May. Complete immigration and customs details in advance on Visit Japan Web, which generates QR codes for the automated gates. Bags arrive promptly, often within 15 minutes.
International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting from actual landing, and domestic arrivals 30 minutes. Past that, waiting is billed in 15-minute blocks.
Drive times from Haneda to central Tokyo
Haneda is about 15 to 20 km from central Tokyo, linked by the Shuto Expressway (the Wangan and Haneda routes). Japan drives on the left.
- Shinagawa and Takanawa: 20 to 30 minutes.
- Tokyo Station, Marunouchi and Otemachi: 25 to 45 minutes.
- Ginza and Nihonbashi: 25 to 45 minutes.
- Roppongi, Toranomon and Azabudai: 25 to 40 minutes.
- Odaiba and Tokyo Big Sight: 15 to 25 minutes.
- Shibuya and Ebisu: 30 to 45 minutes.
- Shinjuku: 35 to 55 minutes.
- Yokohama (Minato Mirai): 25 to 40 minutes.
- Tokyo Disney Resort (Maihama): 25 to 40 minutes.
- Narita Airport: 60 to 90 minutes, for connections.
The Shuto Expressway slows on weekday mornings and evenings and on Friday nights, and accidents can add 20 minutes or more.
Rail alternatives from Haneda
Tokyo's rail links are excellent. The Keikyu line reaches Shinagawa in about 15 to 20 minutes, with through trains onward to Nihonbashi and Asakusa, and the Tokyo Monorail runs to Hamamatsucho in about 15 to 20 minutes, connecting to the JR Yamanote line. Rail is fast and inexpensive for a traveller with a small case going to a hotel near a station. A chauffeur saves real effort with large bags, children, a group, a destination away from the station, or a late arrival after the last trains, which stop around midnight. Hotels and districts reached from Haneda
Tokyo's business hotels and offices are spread across several districts. Marunouchi and Otemachi, beside Tokyo Station, are the corporate heart of the city, with banks, trading houses and many luxury hotels. Toranomon and Azabudai have new towers built in the last few years. Roppongi has the Mori Tower, embassies and nightlife, and Ginza the department stores and flagship boutiques. Shinjuku, the west side's skyscraper district, has the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and large hotels, while Shibuya is the centre of technology start-ups and youth culture. Odaiba, on the bay, holds Tokyo Big Sight. Hotels in Tokyo often sit above shopping or office floors, so give the hotel name, not only the address, and the chauffeur will use the correct car entrance.
Business travel, roadshows and events in Tokyo
Tokyo sees steady traffic from finance, technology, automotive and trading-house business, concentrated in Marunouchi, Otemachi, Toranomon and Shinagawa. Investor programmes are planned under financial roadshows, and corporate accounts include monthly invoicing, cost centres, traveller profiles and a named coordinator. Trade shows at Tokyo Big Sight and Makuhari Messe, sumo tournaments at the Ryogoku Kokugikan (usually in January, May and September) and the Tokyo Marathon, usually in early March, bring peaks in demand.
