Two terminals on opposite sides of the airfield
Hartsfield-Jackson is laid out as a long line of concourses, T, A, B, C, D, E and F, linked underground by the Plane Train. The landside buildings sit at either end:
- The Domestic Terminal on the west side, split into North and South, faces I-85 and is where most domestic passengers collect bags. The MARTA station is here.
- The Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal on the east side, next to Concourse F, faces I-75 and handles most international arrivals whose journey ends in Atlanta.
The two are about 10 to 15 minutes apart by road around the runways, so it matters which one you walk out of. International passengers who clear customs and are staying in Atlanta usually exit at the International Terminal; if you are connecting to a domestic flight or were told to recheck your bag, you may end up in the Domestic Terminal. Where the chauffeur meets you at ATL
Curbside pickup is the standard service. At the Domestic Terminal it is the commercial ground transportation area on the west side, signed from baggage claim in both North and South. The Downtown Connector is one of the busiest roads in the Southeast. Weekday peaks run 7 to 9:30 am and 4 to 7 pm, and big events at Mercedes-Benz Stadium or State Farm Arena add their own jams.
Taking MARTA from the airport
MARTA's Airport station sits at the end of the Domestic Terminal, and Red and Gold line trains reach Five Points downtown in about 20 minutes, Midtown in about 25 and Buckhead in about 30. Times are on MARTA. It is cheap and immune to traffic, but it starts from the Domestic Terminal only, so international arrivals at the east side need the shuttle across first. For a group, heavy luggage or a destination away from the line, a car is quicker door to door.

Hartsfield-Jackson security lines can be long at peak times, so aim to be at the kerb two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international one. Events that change Atlanta airport traffic
Some dates put extra pressure on the roads between ATL and the city. The AJC Peachtree Road Race closes Peachtree Street every Fourth of July morning. Dragon Con fills downtown hotels over Labor Day weekend, and the SEC Championship and college bowl games bring crowds to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in December. In April, many golf fans land at ATL and drive about 2 h 30 to 3 h to Augusta for the Masters; that trip can be booked as an intercity transfer. On busy dates, book early and allow extra time for your return flight.
