Charlotte Douglas International is one of American Airlines' largest hubs, and most passengers only connect. Arriving travellers use a single terminal with Concourses A through E radiating from a central atrium. International flights clear US customs in the Concourse D area before re-entering the main terminal. Where do I meet my chauffeur at CLT?

Transit options at the airport
The LYNX Blue Line light rail does not reach the airport. CATS runs a bus route between the terminal and Uptown. It is fine for light packers, but for most travellers with luggage a car saves the transfer. See CATS for timetables.

Driving in the Charlotte region
Charlotte's road network centres on the I-485 outer loop, with I-77 running north to south through Uptown and I-85 cutting across from the airport side of town toward Concord and Gastonia. I-77 north of Uptown toward Lake Norman has express toll lanes with variable pricing. The worst congestion is usually on I-77 north in the evening, on I-485 near Ballantyne, and on Independence Boulevard east of Uptown.
Many Uptown hotels have small driveways, so the chauffeur may stop at a marked loading zone nearby. South End, the busy district along the light rail line, has narrow streets and limited stopping space on weekend nights.
