The Hobby terminal
Hobby is Houston's older, closer airport, about 11 km south-east of downtown, run by the Houston Airport System alongside Bush Intercontinental. It has one terminal with a domestic concourse and an international concourse opened in 2015, and Southwest Airlines runs most flights. Baggage claim is on the lower level, and walkways lead to the garages.

Hobby has no rail link; METRORail's lines do not reach the airport. METRO buses connect the terminal with downtown and other transit centres. Cruise transfers to Galveston
Hobby is the closer of Houston's two airports to the Port of Galveston, whose cruise terminals are 45 to 70 minutes away on I-45 South. On embarkation days, traffic across the causeway and into the terminals can stack up, so book an early pickup and add your ship and boarding window. Weather and the Houston calendar
Hurricane season runs from June to November, and heavy rain can flood underpasses quickly; the chauffeur follows local road closures and reroutes. Departing from Hobby: when to leave

Cruise passengers flying home after disembarking in Galveston should book a flight no earlier than about midday: ships usually clear passengers from the morning onwards, and the drive back takes up to 70 minutes.
