Moorea lies about 17 km across the channel from Papeete. Passenger and car ferries leave from the Papeete ferry terminal on the waterfront, with crossings typically 30 to 45 minutes, and a short flight from Faa'a is the other option. Late-night arrivals and early departures
Long-haul schedules into Faa'a cluster late at night and in the early morning, and some return flights leave close to midnight. If you are coming back from Moorea on the day you fly, choose a ferry that lands in Papeete with plenty of time in hand and book the car from the ferry terminal with the sailing noted, so the driver can follow a late boat.
