Where is the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal?
The terminal occupies Pier 27 on the Embarcadero, at the foot of Telegraph Hill and a short walk from North Beach and Fisherman's Wharf. The Port of San Francisco opened it in 2014, replacing the old Pier 35 building as the main cruise facility. Pier 35, a few hundred metres north, is still used as a secondary berth when two ships are in port on the same day, so read the pier number on your boarding documents. The Embarcadero is a surface boulevard with traffic lights and a streetcar line, so the last mile is slower than the freeway part. Friday evenings and Giants home games at Oracle Park, a mile and a half south, add time.
Embarkation day at Pier 27
Your cruise line assigns an arrival window, and that window, not the sailing hour, is what the pickup should aim for. Disembarkation morning: the ground transportation area
Ships usually tie up at dawn and passengers go ashore in numbered groups over the next few hours. After you clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection inside the terminal and collect your cases, follow the signs to the ground transportation area the port designates for pre-arranged cars, taxis and shuttles. Book the pickup for the time your group is likely to be released, not the docking time. Ship to SFO or Oakland: which flights work?
On disembarkation day, a domestic flight after about 11:30 and an international flight after about 13:30 leave a sensible margin. SFO is the default for long-haul connections; Oakland is often quicker for Southwest and West Coast flights when the Bay Bridge is moving. The Embarcadero hotels near the Ferry Building and the Financial District put you ten minutes from the pier, Fisherman's Wharf is walking distance, and Nob Hill and Union Square are a short drive. After the cruise, many passengers keep a car for the day and fly out that evening.

What the fixed fare covers
The fare includes the vehicle, the chauffeur and the included waiting. Gratuity and any pier parking are charged at actual cost and added to the booking, as are extra stops or waiting beyond the included time. No cancellation fee applies more than 72 hours before pickup; after that it is 10% from 72 hours, 50% from 48 hours and the full fare from 24 hours or for a no-show.
