The station next to the Dom
Köln Hauptbahnhof stands directly beside Cologne Cathedral, so the first thing most visitors see on leaving is the west front of the Dom. It is one of the busiest stations in Germany, with around 280,000 passengers a day, and a key junction between Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and France.
ICE trains run to Frankfurt in about 1 hour 5 minutes on the high-speed line, to Berlin in about 4 hours 15 minutes and to Munich in about 4 hours 30 minutes. Eurostar (the former Thalys) and ICE International trains reach Brussels in about 1 hour 50 minutes, with onward Eurostar services to Paris, and ICE trains run to Amsterdam in about 2 hours 40 minutes. Dense regional trains serve Düsseldorf, Bonn, Aachen and the Ruhr. Some ICEs stop instead at Köln Messe/Deutz, across the Hohenzollern Bridge, so check the station on your ticket.
Entrances: cathedral side or Breslauer Platz?
- Bahnhofsvorplatz (south-west, cathedral side): a large pedestrian forecourt at the foot of the Dom steps. Cars cannot drive up to the doors here.
- Breslauer Platz (north-east, rear): the vehicle side, with the taxi rank, short-stay and drop-off lanes, a car park and the long-distance bus stops.
- Johannisstraße and Maximinenstraße: smaller side exits.
Because the cathedral forecourt is pedestrian, most pre-booked pickups happen at Breslauer Platz.
Legal stopping places and the meeting point
The standard service is curbside at Breslauer Platz or the nearest designated pick-up area. Private hire cars may not wait at the taxi rank or stop on the forecourt. After you leave the train, the chauffeur texts or calls with the exact spot; walk through the main hall towards the Breslauer Platz exit.
A concourse or platform meet with a name board is an add-on through meet and greet. Add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Train tracking and waiting time
We monitor your train number. If the Eurostar from Brussels or the ICE from Frankfurt arrives late, the chauffeur follows the real arrival at no charge. Fifteen minutes of waiting are included after arrival; beyond that, waiting is billed in 15-minute blocks. If your train is diverted to Köln Messe/Deutz, call the desk and the pickup moves across the river.
Bags and equipment
A Standard Sedan fits two passengers and two suitcases. Trade-fair teams with display material, TV crews with equipment and families with prams should book a Standard Black SUV. For up to 12 passengers with small bags, the Sprinter Van is right. Child seats are free on request.

Hotels, media and the trade fair
Cologne's large hotels line the Ring and the Rhine, 5-15 minutes from the station. Television and media companies are clustered in the MediaPark and in Ossendorf, while insurers and trading firms sit around the city centre and Deutz. Koelnmesse hosts large fairs across the year, including a games fair usually in August and a food fair in autumn in some years, when traffic on the Deutz side becomes slow. An hourly chauffeur (three-hour minimum) keeps a car at hand between meetings.
Carnival and seasonal closures
The Cologne street carnival, usually from the Thursday before Lent to Rose Monday in February or early March, closes large parts of the old town, and the Christmas markets around the cathedral usually run from late November to late December.
