A compact airport with a short runway
Florence Airport, also called Peretola after its district, sits about 4 km north-west of the historic centre. It has one small terminal and one of the shortest runways among Italy's main airports, which limits aircraft size and means strong tailwinds or fog occasionally divert flights to Pisa or Bologna. The ZTL and Florence's centre
The whole historic centre of Florence is a ZTL (limited traffic zone) enforced by cameras, and many streets around the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio are pedestrian-only.
