Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ)
Bologna airport is about 6 km north-west of the centre, with one terminal serving Schengen and non-Schengen flights. Standard pickup is at the designated pre-arranged pickup area outside arrivals, and the chauffeur messages the car details once you land. Having the chauffeur wait in the hall with your name on a board is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Flights are tracked and the chauffeur is timed to actual landing. BolognaFiere: trade-fair logistics
The BolognaFiere exhibition district, north-east of the centre, hosts large international shows. Cosmoprof, the beauty trade fair, is usually in March; the Bologna Children's Book Fair usually in April; and Cersaie, the ceramic tile and bathroom show, usually in late September. During these weeks hotels fill across Emilia-Romagna, and many visitors stay in Modena or on the coast and commute in. Motor Valley days
Emilia-Romagna calls itself the Motor Valley. The Ferrari museum and factory are at Maranello, south of Modena; Lamborghini's headquarters and museum are at Sant'Agata Bolognese; the Ducati factory and museum are at Borgo Panigale on Bologna's western edge; and the Pagani workshop is at San Cesario sul Panaro. Bologna's centre, districts and hotels
The historic centre is enclosed by the ring of the old city walls, the viali. Inside are Piazza Maggiore, the Basilica of San Petronio, the Two Towers and nearly 40 km of porticoes, listed by UNESCO in 2021. The university quarter lies along Via Zamboni. Business addresses spread outward along the Via Emilia and into the Fiera district, where regional offices and the Tecnopolo data centre area sit. Well-known hotels include the Grand Hotel Majestic "già Baglioni" on Via dell'Indipendenza and the hotels around the Fiera. For quiet countryside stays, estates in the hills toward Imola are 30 to 40 minutes away.
ZTL, the T zone and Città 30
Driving is on the right. Bologna has a camera-enforced ZTL covering most of the centre inside the viali, with the stricter T zone on Via Rizzoli, Via Ugo Bassi and Via dell'Indipendenza, which is closed to private traffic through the day. Since 2024 the city also applies a 30 km/h limit on most urban streets under its Città 30 plan. Licensed private-hire access to the ZTL depends on permits, so some drop-offs happen at the nearest open street a short walk from the hotel. Motorways around the city are tolled.
Bologna Centrale and rail connections
Bologna Centrale is the hub of Italy's high-speed network, with underground platforms for Frecciarossa and Italo trains: Florence is about 35 to 40 minutes away, Milan about an hour, and Rome about two and a quarter hours. EES and ETIAS for Bologna arrivals
Italy is part of Schengen, and the EU's Entry/Exit System has been fully in force since April 2026. Non-EU visitors on a short stay have their fingerprints and a facial image recorded at their first Schengen entry, which may be BLQ itself on a flight from London, Istanbul or Tirana. ETIAS has not started as of September 2026, and the EU will announce its launch in advance.
Cancellation
