Why a Capri transfer is a handover, not one drive
Capri restricts cars. For 2026, a regional decree bans non-resident cars, motorcycles and mopeds from landing and circulating on the island from 30 March to 2 November and again from 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. The ban covers rental and foreign-plated vehicles. So a chauffeured car cannot take you from Naples to your Capri hotel door. The trip has three parts: a car from the airport, station or hotel to a mainland pier; a hydrofoil or ferry; and the island's own transport, meaning the funicular, licensed open-top taxis and hotel porters. Booking the mainland legs
Book on this page or at /book/. For the outbound leg, enter your flight number and choose Molo Beverello, Calata Porta di Massa or Sorrento as the drop-off. For the return, enter the pier and the scheduled boat time and the chauffeur waits at the pier exit. The fare shown includes the chauffeur, fuel and included waiting, while port fees at the pier and gratuity are added at actual cost. Timing the car to the boat
Hydrofoils leave on schedule and tickets are for a named sailing on busy days, so the chauffeur's job is to get you to the pier with time to spare. Allow at least 30 to 45 minutes between your planned arrival at the pier and the boat, more in July and August. Flights are tracked, so a late landing moves the pickup and the chauffeur can drive straight to Beverello; you may need a later sailing. International arrivals include 60 minutes of waiting from landing and domestic flights 30 minutes. Curbside pickup at the airport's designated pickup area is standard; a hall greeting with your name on a board costs extra, and add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Arriving on the island: Marina Grande
Boats dock at Marina Grande. From there, the funicular climbs to the Piazzetta in Capri town in a few minutes, and licensed island taxis, many of them open-top, run to Anacapri, Marina Piccola and the hotel entrances that vehicles can reach. Porters at the harbour carry luggage up to many hotels, which saves dragging cases through the lanes. Much of Capri town around Via Camerelle and Via Tragara is pedestrian. Hotels such as the Grand Hotel Quisisana, Punta Tragara, the Capri Palace in Anacapri and the Caesar Augustus arrange arrival logistics for their guests.
Coming back: pier to airport or Rome
For the return, book the car for the pier and boat you plan to catch. The chauffeur holds at the pier exit with 15 minutes of included waiting, then 15-minute blocks. If the sea closes the hydrofoils, message the desk; it moves the pickup to your new sailing. Onward options include the NAP airport, Napoli Centrale for the train, a hotel in Naples, or a direct transfer to Rome of about 2.5 to 3 hours.
Private boats and helicopters
Some travellers charter a private boat from Naples, Sorrento or Positano, which lands at Marina Grande or another permitted landing, or take a helicopter that uses the island's heliport at Anacapri. Weather, sea state and seasons
Winter storms and strong mistral or libeccio winds can suspend hydrofoils, and the slower car ferries from Calata Porta di Massa are sometimes the only boats running. From Easter to October, sailings are frequent; in winter, fewer. The island's patron, San Costanzo, is celebrated on 14 May. July and August are the peak months for queues at Beverello. Combining Capri with Naples, Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast
Most people split a week between Capri and one mainland base. A common pattern is two nights in Naples, three on Capri and two in Positano, with a car doing the mainland moves: airport to Beverello, then later the Sorrento or Positano pier to the hotel, then the coast back to the airport. Each leg is a separate booking with its own fixed fare, or a coordinator can plan the whole itinerary and confirm it in writing. Cruise passengers on a Naples call who want Capri for the day usually walk from the Stazione Marittima to Molo Beverello, which is next door, so a car is only needed afterwards. What vehicle suits a pier transfer?
Pier drop-offs are short and busy, so a Standard Sedan or Luxury Executive Sedan is the default for two people. Families with several cases take an executive SUV or Standard Black SUV. Groups arriving for a wedding or a yacht charter can book a Sprinter or minicoach; several vehicles are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing. Arrival rules for non-EU travellers
The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully live since 10 April 2026, so non-EU visitors give a photo and usually fingerprints at their first Schengen entry, which may be Naples or a connecting hub.
