Capodichino: a city airport
Naples International sits in the Capodichino district, only about 6 km north-east of the city centre, which makes it one of Italy's closest airports to its city. Passenger flights use the main terminal, with arrivals on the ground floor. Traffic is strongly seasonal: from late spring to early autumn, flights from across Europe, the UK and the United States bring visitors heading for the islands and the coast.

The Amalfi Coast road
The SS163 Amalfitana is narrow, winding and slow, with tight bends and buses meeting cars on blind corners. In peak season the authorities can apply traffic restrictions on the coast road, so check before you travel and leave time. Alibus, trains and ferries
The Alibus shuttle links the airport with Piazza Garibaldi and the port area. From Napoli Centrale, trains run to Rome and beyond; timetables are on Trenitalia. The Circumvesuviana local line serves Pompeii and Sorrento but can be crowded in summer. With luggage, a direct car to the hotel or ferry pier saves several changes.

Capri, Ischia and the islands
Many arriving passengers do not stay in Naples at all but head straight to a ferry. Fast boats to Capri and Ischia leave from Molo Beverello, and some services to Capri also leave from Sorrento. If you are catching a ferry, add the sailing time to the booking notes; the chauffeur drops you as close to the pier entrance as port traffic rules allow. If your flight is late and you miss a sailing, the car can take you on to Sorrento for a later boat instead, subject to a change in the booking.
Driving in Naples
Naples drives on the right, and city traffic is dense, with scooters filling every gap and one-way streets in the centro storico. The historic centre has a ZTL, and the seafront Lungomare is partly pedestrian. The chauffeur knows the drop-off points for the main hotels. Travellers heading south of Salerno toward the Cilento coast should allow two hours or more.
