The Naples cruise terminal
The Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority manages the port. Cruise ships tie up at the Stazione Marittima, the 1930s terminal on the Molo Angioino, and at the quays alongside it; when several ships are in, the neighbouring berths are used too. Hydrofoils and fast ferries to Capri, Sorrento, Ischia and Procida leave from Molo Beverello, right next door, which makes Naples a natural starting point for the islands.
MSC Cruises, Costa, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity and many luxury lines call at Naples on Western Mediterranean itineraries, and some start or end cruises here. The terminal is a short walk from the Galleria Umberto, the Teatro di San Carlo and the Royal Palace.
Embarkation drop-off
Pre-arranged cars stop at the drop-off area in front of the Stazione Marittima, off Piazza Municipio and Via Marina, where porters take tagged luggage. The approach roads also carry ferry traffic, so allow 10-20 minutes from hotels on the Lungomare (via Partenope) and 60-75 minutes from Sorrento. Plan to arrive when your check-in window opens, since lines stop boarding roughly two hours before sailing.
Disembarkation and pickup
Once you leave the terminal hall, go to the ground transportation area outside, where pre-arranged vehicles and taxis wait. The chauffeur meets you at the car, not inside the building; for a name-board welcome at the exit, add meet and greet, available in selected locations only. Book for your disembarkation group time plus 30-45 minutes; 15 minutes of waiting are included, then 15-minute blocks.

Naples airport is small and close to the city; see the airport website for live flights. The chauffeur tracks your flight, waits 60 minutes from the actual landing on international arrivals and 30 on domestic ones, and meets you at the designated pickup area. Travellers flying long-haul often use Rome Fiumicino and book a single car to the ship. For a flight home from Capodichino, allow two and a half hours after the ship's arrival for Europe and three and a half for long-haul.
Pre- and post-cruise hotels
On the Lungomare, the Grand Hotel Vesuvio and the Excelsior face Castel dell'Ovo, 10-15 minutes from the terminal, and the Romeo Hotel stands directly across the road from the port. Many passengers spend a few nights in Sorrento, on the Amalfi Coast or on Capri instead. Port-day tours: Pompeii, Vesuvius and the coast
An hourly chauffeur, minimum three hours, fits Herculaneum (20-30 minutes away) or Pompeii (30-40 minutes) with time to walk the site. Buy entry on the official Pompeii archaeological park site. A six-hour day combines Pompeii with Sorrento; seven to eight hours covers the Amalfi Coast drive to Positano and Amalfi. The coast road (SS163) is narrow, and in peak season the authorities restrict private cars on it on alternating days by number plate, while licensed hire vehicles follow their own permit rules; larger vans may be limited, so sedans and SUVs are the usual choice there. Driving in Naples
Italy drives on the right, and Naples drives with conviction. The historic centre has limited-traffic zones (ZTL) where only authorised vehicles may enter at set hours, and scooters fill every gap. Luggage between hotels, ferries and the ship
Naples trips often mix cars and boats. If you are coming from Capri or Ischia, the hydrofoil lands at Molo Beverello with limited space for large cases, and porters on the pier can be scarce; book a short transfer from the pier to the terminal drop-off if you are carrying cruise luggage. From Sorrento or Positano, a car is usually the easier option for bags. Count every suitcase in the booking and choose a Standard Black SUV if two guests have four large cases.
