Why travellers use Toluca
Toluca International, officially Adolfo Lopez Mateos International Airport, is about 60 kilometres west of central Mexico City in the State of Mexico. It is the main business aviation airport for the capital, because Mexico City International restricts general aviation, and it also has scheduled domestic flights. At about 2,580 metres above sea level it is one of the highest commercial airports in North America. The TLC terminal and FBOs
Scheduled passengers use a single terminal with one baggage hall. Private aircraft use the fixed-base operators along the business aviation apron, each with its own lounge and customs arrangements for international arrivals. Where your chauffeur meets you at TLC
For airline passengers, pickup is at the area the airport designates for pre-arranged vehicles outside arrivals; message the chauffeur once you have your bags. For private flights, the chauffeur waits at the FBO entrance, or planeside where the FBO and airport rules allow it. A name-board greeting inside the terminal is an add-on, meet and greet; add-ons are only available in selected locations.

The key variable is the road into Mexico City. Most transfers use the Mexico-Toluca toll highway over La Marquesa, then Constituyentes or the Santa Fe corridor.

The El Insurgente interurban train links Toluca with Mexico City's west side, but it does not serve the airport terminal. Fog at La Marquesa, which sits above 3,000 metres, and afternoon storms in the rainy season from June to September can slow the highway.
Mexico City driving rules
Mexico City's Hoy No Circula programme, run by the city's environment ministry, limits which vehicles may circulate on given days and during air-quality contingencies, based on plates and emissions stickers. Affiliates assign vehicles that can legally drive into the capital on your date. Weekday traffic between Santa Fe and Polanco is heavy from about 7 to 10 in the morning and 6 to 9 in the evening.
Choosing a vehicle at Toluca
- Standard Sedan: a single traveller on a domestic flight heading to Toluca or Metepec.
- Luxury Executive Sedan: the usual choice for an executive heading to a Santa Fe headquarters.
- Executive First Class Sedan (Maybach): a principal arriving by private jet who wants to work on the way into the city.
- Standard Black SUV: six passengers and six bags; many security teams prefer the higher seating.
- Executive Black SUV: the premium six-seater for Polanco and Lomas residences.
- Sprinter Luxury Jet Van: seven passengers with carry-ons, well suited to a flight department crew or a small board.
- Sprinter Van: twelve passengers for a delegation or a weekend group heading to Valle de Bravo.
- Luxury Stretch Limo and Party Bus: events in the city, not airport runs.

Private aviation and security
A large share of TLC arrivals are business jets carrying executives, investors and family offices. Chauffeurs can be timed to wheels-down, and standing instructions, security details and preferred routes can be held on a corporate account. Waiting and cancellations
Domestic arrivals include 30 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing; international arrivals, commercial or private, include 60 minutes for customs and migration. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute blocks. Cancellation terms: free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, 100% at 24 hours or less or on a no-show.
Departures from Toluca
Returning to TLC from Santa Fe or Polanco for an evening departure, allow the upper end of the range above: the westbound climb to La Marquesa is slow after 6 pm, and fog often settles on the pass after dark. Private passengers are dropped at the FBO entrance, where the handler takes the bags; airline passengers are dropped at the departures curb. Tell the desk if the crew has changed the departure time so the pickup can be moved.
Weekend trips to Valle de Bravo
Valle de Bravo, on its lake about 75 kilometres from TLC, is a weekend base for Mexico City families, and many fly private into Toluca to avoid the full drive from the capital. An SUV suits the mountain road and weekend luggage.
