How cruise ships use Port Hercule
Port Hercule is the principality's deep-water harbour, between Monte-Carlo and the Rock. Cruise ships of moderate size berth along the outer breakwater, the semi-floating Digue, where the maritime station (gare maritime) handles passengers and luggage. Larger ships, and any ship on a busy day, anchor off the harbour mouth and send passengers ashore by tender to landing stages inside the port. Ports de Monaco publishes the call schedule.
Monaco suits luxury and small-ship lines. Silversea, Seabourn, Regent Seven Seas, Oceania, Ponant and Windstar all include it, and several begin or end Mediterranean voyages here, so embarkation and disembarkation transfers are common in spring, summer and autumn.
Embarkation: arriving at the quay
On a boarding day the chauffeur follows the port's access route to the maritime station and stops where port staff indicate for private cars. Luggage is taken from the kerb by the ship's team. Luxury lines often give each suite a boarding time; be at the terminal at the start of it, because the approach roads through the principality are short but slow, and one-way streets can add a loop.
From a hotel in Monte-Carlo, allow 10-15 minutes. From Nice, allow 45 minutes. From Cannes or Antibes, allow 60-80 minutes and more on a Saturday in July.
Disembarkation: where the chauffeur waits
When your cruise ends here, the chauffeur waits at the pickup area by the maritime station on the Digue or, for a tender ship, at the nearest point on the quay where cars are allowed to stop. Neither is inside the building. Book for the time your line gives for your group, plus 30 minutes. Fifteen minutes of waiting from the booked time are included; after that, waiting is billed in 15-minute blocks.
Once you are through with your bags, call or text the chauffeur. A name-board greeting at the exit can be added as meet and greet; add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Nice airport to the ship, and ship to airport
Most cruise passengers fly into Nice Cote d'Azur airport, which has two terminals, T1 and T2. The chauffeur tracks the flight and waits 60 minutes free after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one.

Leave at least three hours between a disembarkation and a European flight from Nice, and more for a long-haul connection. Hotels before and after the cruise
The Hotel de Paris and the Hermitage face the Casino square, the Fairmont sits above the hairpin, and the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel is on the Larvotto side. All are 5-15 minutes from the quay. Many guests prefer a night in Nice, Villefranche or Eze and a short transfer to the ship. A three-hour hourly booking can combine hotel checkout, a stop in Eze village and the drop at the maritime station, with your cases in the car throughout.
Port-day private touring on the Riviera
With an hourly chauffeur, minimum three hours, a port day can cover much more than the harbour.
- Monaco itself. The Prince's Palace and Oceanographic Museum on the Rock, the Casino gardens and the Grand Prix circuit streets.
- Eze and the corniches. The perched village of Eze on the Moyenne Corniche, with the view down to Cap Ferrat, then back by the Grande Corniche.
- Villefranche and Cap Ferrat. The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and its gardens, 20-30 minutes away.
- Saint-Paul-de-Vence and Grasse. A longer half day inland for galleries and perfume houses.

Events that change traffic in Monaco
The Monaco Grand Prix, usually in late May or early June, closes the harbour-front streets for about two weeks of set-up and racing, and the Monaco Yacht Show fills Port Hercule in September.
