Embarkation drop-off
At Ostseekai, pre-arranged cars stop at the drop-off area in front of the terminal, where porters take tagged luggage. Hotels for the night before
Staying in Kiel makes embarkation day short: hotels near the Hauptbahnhof and the Kiellinie waterfront are 5-10 minutes from Ostseekai. Staying in Hamburg gives you a bigger city and a 75-90 minute drive on the morning of sailing. In late June, Kiel hosts Kiel Week, one of the largest sailing festivals in the world, and hotels book out; the city's Kiel Sailing City site lists the dates each year.
Port-day private tours
An hourly chauffeur, minimum three hours, can show you the locks of the Kiel Canal at Holtenau, 10 minutes from the port, where ships from all over the world enter one of the busiest artificial waterways on earth, then the naval memorial and the museum submarine at Laboe, 25-30 minutes around the east shore. Moving a group between Hamburg and Kiel
Families and friends often arrive on different flights. Rather than several cars, one Sprinter Van for up to 12 passengers can collect everyone at Hamburg Airport after the last landing, with the included waiting counted from that flight. If arrivals are hours apart, book separate transfers, each tracked to its own flight.
