A station built for connections
Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof is Germany's busiest long-distance hub, with several hundred thousand passengers on a normal weekday. Its three original iron train sheds from 1888, plus two later halls, cover more than 20 terminal platforms. ICE trains reach Cologne in about 1 hour 5 minutes on the high-speed line, Berlin in about 4 hours, Munich in about 3 hours 10 minutes and Hamburg in about 3 hours 40 minutes. International ICE and TGV services run to Paris Est, Brussels, Amsterdam and Basel.
Below ground, the S-Bahn Rhein-Main tunnel carries lines S1 to S9, including the airport lines S8 and S9, and the U4 and U5 subway lines stop here. Many ICE trains also call at Frankfurt Airport's long-distance station, so check whether your train might be better left there.
Entrances and street sides
- Main entrance (Bahnhofsvorplatz): the east front, facing Kaiserstraße and the city centre, with trams and the main taxi rank.
- North side (Poststraße): towards the Messe and Westend, with a second taxi rank and short-stay parking.
- South side (Mannheimer Straße): towards the Gallus district and the Main river.
- Underground B-level: the S-Bahn and U-Bahn concourse, with exits into the Bahnhofsviertel.
The station forecourt and surrounding streets are being rebuilt in stages, so the walking route to a waiting car may change. Signs are updated as works move.
Where your chauffeur waits
The standard service is curbside. Pre-booked cars may only stop in the designated drop-off and pick-up bays and short-stay areas around the station, not on the taxi rank or in the tram lanes of the forecourt. Once you have your bags and are heading to the exit, call or text the chauffeur; they reply with the exact bay, usually on the north (Poststraße) side, which is easier for Messe and airport runs.
A meet on the concourse or at the platform with a name board is an add-on through meet and greet. Add-ons are only available in selected locations.
ICE tracking and included waiting
Deutsche Bahn long-distance trains often run late. We follow your train number in real time, so the chauffeur adjusts to the actual arrival at no charge. After arrival, 15 minutes of waiting are included; after that, waiting is charged in 15-minute blocks. If a platform change sends you to the far end of the station, let the chauffeur know.
Suitcases, trade-fair kits and bulky items
A Standard Sedan fits two passengers and two suitcases. Exhibitors often carry sample cases, banner tubes and laptop trolleys; a Standard Black SUV (six passengers, six bags) or a Sprinter Van (12 passengers, 12 small bags) is the better choice. Child seats are free on request.

Hotels, the Messe and the banking district
Frankfurt's business life is packed into a small area. The European Central Bank in Ostend is 10-15 minutes away, the Deutsche Börse campus in Eschborn about 20 minutes, and the towers of the Bankenviertel five minutes. During big fairs at Messe Frankfurt, such as the book fair usually in October or the international motor and consumer-goods fairs, hotel runs between the station and the exhibition halls are short but slow. An hourly chauffeur booked for a fair day (three-hour minimum) avoids hunting for taxis between meetings.

When the road beats the ICE
If your connection is cancelled or you need to reach a place the train does not serve, book an intercity transfer. Common runs:
- Mainz, about 40 km, 35-45 minutes
- Wiesbaden, about 40 km, 35-45 minutes
- Heidelberg, about 90 km, 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes
- Würzburg, about 120 km, 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes
- Cologne, about 190 km, 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes
- Stuttgart, about 205 km, 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes
- Munich, about 395 km, 4 hours to 4 hours 30 minutes
German motorways have no general speed limit on some stretches, but works and congestion around the Frankfurter Kreuz set the real journey time.
