Frankfurt Airport: Terminal 1, the new Terminal 3 and pickup points
Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is about 12 km south-west of the city centre, with the A5 and A3 motorways meeting at the Frankfurter Kreuz interchange right beside it. The drive to the Bankenviertel usually takes 15 to 25 minutes, and to Messe Frankfurt 15 to 20 minutes.
The airport's layout changed in 2026. Terminal 3, on the southern side of the airfield, opened in April 2026, and the airlines that used Terminal 2 moved there in phases between April and early June 2026. Terminal 1, on the northern side, remains the home of Lufthansa and its partners, and Condor is scheduled to stay in Terminal 1 until its planned move to Terminal 3. Because the terminals sit on opposite sides of the runways, a car collecting you from the wrong one can lose 15 minutes or more, so the terminal on your ticket belongs in the booking. At both terminals, curbside pickup at the designated area for pre-booked vehicles is standard, and the chauffeur is timed to your landing. Messe Frankfurt: getting in and out on fair days
Messe Frankfurt, west of the centre between the Hauptbahnhof and the Rebstock, is one of the largest exhibition grounds in the world, with the Festhalle and the Congress Center on the same site. During big fairs, the streets around the grounds fill from 07:30, and every entrance (such as the City entrance near the Messeturm, the Torhaus, Portalhaus and the Hall 3 South entrance) has its own drop-off rules. Achema, the process industries fair, runs in June on a three-year cycle. Always confirm dates on Messe Frankfurt before planning. During fair weeks, hotels across the Rhine-Main region fill, and many visitors stay in Wiesbaden, Mainz or Bad Homburg and commute by car; allow 30 to 45 minutes each way. Hotels and venues

The Umweltzone and other driving realities
Frankfurt has a low-emission zone (Umweltzone) covering most of the urban area, roughly the city inside the motorway ring formed by the A5, A3 and A661, including the airport's approach roads into the city. Vehicles inside it must display the green emissions sticker (grüne Plakette); fines apply otherwise. Affiliate vehicles are four model years old or younger, and the sticker is part of operating in the city. The German Environment Agency publishes the national rules.
Germany drives on the right. Cars pay no motorway tolls, and parts of the Autobahn have no general speed limit, but the motorways around Frankfurt carry some of Germany's heaviest traffic, with long roadworks on the A3 and A5 and daily queues at the Frankfurter Kreuz and the Offenbacher Kreuz from 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00. Winter tyres are required in wintry conditions. A chauffeur who knows the alternatives through Niederrad or over the Main bridges can make a real difference to a tight connection.

Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and the ICE network
Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof is one of Germany's main rail junctions, a short drive from the Bankenviertel and the Messe. ICE trains reach Cologne in about 1 hour 5 minutes, Munich in about 3 to 3.5 hours and Berlin in about 4 hours, and direct trains run to Paris and Amsterdam. Frankfurt is the seat of the European Central Bank and of Germany's financial supervisor, and home to Deutsche Börse and the headquarters of several large German banks. Arriving in Germany: EES and ETIAS
Germany is in the Schengen area. Since 10 April 2026 the Entry/Exit System is fully operational at Frankfurt Airport and every other Schengen external border: travellers from outside the EU and EFTA register a face image and, from age 12, fingerprints on their first entry, and later crossings are checked against that record. Long-haul banks of arrivals can mean longer queues at passport control, which is why included waiting starts from the actual landing.
