Trains and immigration at West Kowloon
West Kowloon is the Hong Kong terminus of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, operated by MTR in Hong Kong and opened in 2018.
- Short-haul trains run frequently to Shenzhen Futian (about 15 to 20 minutes), Shenzhen North and Guangzhou South.
- Long-haul trains run to cities across mainland China, including Beijing West and Shanghai Hongqiao, with sleeper services on those two routes.
The station uses co-location: both the Hong Kong and mainland immigration and customs controls are inside West Kowloon, in separate zones. Arriving passengers clear mainland exit and Hong Kong entry formalities in the station before reaching the arrival hall. Allow 15 to 30 minutes after the train pulls in, longer on holiday weekends. Tracking the train gives us the arrival time; the chauffeur's timing also builds in this immigration step.
Arrival hall, exits and where cars pick up
The station is largely underground, beneath a sloping glass roof and a public park. After immigration you come up into the arrival hall, which leads to the MTR (Kowloon and Austin stations are linked by walkway), the taxi stand and the designated pick-up area for private cars. The station sits between Austin Road West and Jordan Road, next to the Elements mall and the ICC tower. Follow the signs for private car pick-up; the chauffeur messages the exact bay or point before you exit immigration.
How the meeting works
At West Kowloon, curbside at the designated pick-up area is the standard service. The chauffeur waits with the car and cannot enter the immigration or platform areas. A meet in the public arrival hall is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations; the booking engine shows if it can be added. See meet and greet.
With a West Kowloon arrival, included waiting is 15 minutes from the actual arrival, then 15-minute blocks. If you expect long immigration queues, for example during Golden Week or Chinese New Year, tell us and we can add time to the booking.
Luggage
China Railway high-speed trains allow standard luggage, and the station has lifts and escalators throughout. Luggage trolleys are available in the arrival hall. Two passengers with large cases fit a Luxury Executive Sedan; families and business teams with several cases should book a Standard Black SUV or Executive Black SUV (six passengers, six bags). Hotels and business districts
The Ritz-Carlton occupies the top floors of the ICC tower next to the station, and the W Hong Kong is in the same Elements complex. The Peninsula, the Rosewood at Victoria Dockside and the harbourfront hotels of Tsim Sha Tsui are about 10 minutes away. Central's banks and law firms, and the Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental, are 10 to 20 minutes through the Western Harbour Crossing. The West Kowloon Cultural District, with M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum, is right beside the station. Hong Kong drives on the left.
Cross-boundary trips by car
Driving to mainland China or Macau is possible but needs a vehicle with cross-boundary licensing and plates, plus quotas and permits for the route used. Shenzhen via the Shenzhen Bay Port is typically 45 to 60 minutes, and Macau or Zhuhai via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge about 1 h to 1 h 30.
