The main terminal and the satellite
Athens International Airport, known by the name of the statesman Eleftherios Venizelos, sits in Spata on the Mesogeia plain, about 30 km east of Syntagma. It has a main terminal and a satellite terminal linked by an underground walkway, with Schengen and non-Schengen gate areas. All arriving passengers leave through the arrivals level of the main terminal, where the metro and suburban railway station is across the forecourt. Pickup point at Athens Airport
The standard service is curbside pickup at the designated area for pre-booked and commercial vehicles at the main terminal's arrivals level. After collecting your bags, call or message the chauffeur, who will confirm where to find the car. Standard bookings do not include a meeting inside the terminal.
For a name-board welcome in the arrivals hall, add meet and greet. Add-ons are only available in selected locations; the booker shows whether it is available at ATH on your date. It is worth adding in high summer, when the hall is crowded with tour groups.
Passport control and the Entry/Exit System
Greece is in Schengen. Flights from other Schengen states, which make up a large share of summer traffic, arrive with no passport control. Flights from the UK, North America, the Middle East and Asia go through Hellenic Police border control, where the EU Entry/Exit System now takes fingerprints and a facial image from non-EU visitors on first entry. ETIAS has not launched, so no advance authorisation is needed yet. On a summer afternoon with several UK flights landing together, allow 30 to 60 minutes from the aircraft to the kerb; off-season, 15 to 30 minutes is typical.

Weekday evenings and summer Friday afternoons are the slowest periods, and central Athens has an inner-ring traffic restriction scheme, the Daktylios, that limits some vehicles on weekdays.
Metro, suburban rail and the X95
Line 3 of the Athens metro, run by STASY, goes from the airport to Syntagma in about 40 minutes and continues to Piraeus. The suburban railway, operated by Hellenic Train, connects the airport with Larissa station for trains to Thessaloniki. The X95 bus runs to Syntagma around the clock. These are good options for a light traveller. A chauffeur is the direct choice with suitcases, children, a group, a hotel on the Riviera that the metro does not reach, or a ship or ferry departure with a fixed boarding time.

Cruise ships and island ferries
Piraeus is the largest passenger port in Greece and one of the busiest cruise ports in the Mediterranean; the Port of Piraeus page explains its terminals, and the port authority publishes schedules at OLP. Rafina and Lavrio are much closer to the airport and serve many ferries to the Cyclades, so a flight-to-ferry connection often works better through them. Cruise lines moving crews or passengers can use cruise lines and ports, with multi-vehicle movements planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing.
Summer peaks and island connections
From June to September, Athens Airport is one of the busiest in Europe, with waves of charter and scheduled flights from northern Europe and long queues for taxis at the kerb. A pre-booked car avoids that line entirely. If you are connecting to a ferry, leave a real margin: ferry departures from Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio run to fixed times and do not wait for late flights. For a ferry at Rafina, aim for at least two hours between the scheduled landing and sailing; for Piraeus, allow three, because the drive across Athens and the port's own traffic can take over an hour. Tell us the sailing time when you book and the desk will flag any connection that looks tight. Summer heat is intense in July and August, and the pickup area is outside, so have water with you for the short walk. On the return, heavy weekend traffic from the Riviera and the ports is common on Sunday evenings.
Late arrivals, waiting and cancelling
If the flight is delayed, the chauffeur's time moves with the tracked arrival, and the delay is not charged. Waiting beyond the included allowance is added in 15-minute blocks. Cancellation is free until 72 hours before pickup; then 10% applies inside 72 hours, 50% inside 48 hours, and 100% inside 24 hours or for a no-show.
Greek islands, Thessaloniki and other airports
