Why book a Mykonos transfer in advance?
Mykonos has only a few dozen licensed taxis for an island that fills with visitors from June to September. At peak times the queues at the airport and the new port can run long after the last bags are off the belt, and ride-hailing is not a practical fallback. - Included waiting: 60 minutes from actual landing on international flights, 30 minutes on domestic flights such as those from Athens, and 15 minutes on other pickups, including ferry and villa pickups, then billed in 15-minute blocks.

Mykonos airport: pickup and timing
Mykonos Island National Airport (JMK) is operated by Fraport Greece and sits about 4 km south-east of Mykonos Town (Chora). In summer it handles direct seasonal flights from many European cities, alongside year-round domestic flights from Athens of about 35 to 40 minutes. The terminal is small and busy, and on peak days aircraft arrive in waves.
Your chauffeur waits at the airport's designated pickup area for pre-booked vehicles outside the terminal; a name-board meet inside is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Because we track the flight, a late arrival from London or Milan simply moves the pickup. Typical drive times from the airport:

The new port, the old port and cruise tenders
Mykonos has two harbours, and your pickup depends on which one your boat uses:
- New Port (Tourlos): about 2 to 3 km north of Chora. Almost all ferries from Piraeus, Rafina and the other Cyclades dock here, and the island's cruise pier is here too, so larger cruise ships that get a berth tie up at Tourlos. The car waits at the port's designated pickup area; drives to Chora take 10 to 15 minutes and to the south-coast beaches 20 to 30 minutes.
- Old Port: on the edge of Chora. Cruise ships that anchor in the bay send passengers ashore by tender to the old harbour, and small boats to Delos also leave from here. Cars stop at the old port road rather than inside the town.
- Sea Bus: a small seasonal water taxi links Tourlos and the old port, useful if you are on foot.
The same cruise call can use either a berth or tenders on the day, so give us the ship name and we follow the port authority's allocation. Ferry passengers should give us the vessel and the operator, since arrival times slip in a strong meltemi wind; the pickup follows the actual docking.
Island traffic and road realities
Mykonos is small, but its roads are not built for summer volumes:
- The island's main roads are narrow and winding, with few alternatives if one is blocked. The ring road around Chora and the roads to Ornos, Psarou and Platis Gialos are the usual pinch points, especially from late afternoon into sunset.
- Chora's lanes are pedestrian; cars stop at the edge of the town, for example near the old port or the Fabrika bus area, and the chauffeur walks luggage to where porters or villa staff collect it.
- Beach club car parks, at Psarou for example, fill early and are often run by valets; the chauffeur drops you and waits nearby or returns at a set time.
- Many villas sit on steep unpaved tracks with tight turns. Tell us the villa name and give the manager's number so the vehicle size suits the drive.
- Greece drives on the right. Quad bikes, scooters and hire cars driven by visitors are a daily hazard on the island's roads, which is one reason many guests prefer a professional driver.
In July and August, plan an extra 15 to 30 minutes on anything timed, such as a flight, a ferry or a dinner booking.

Villas, hotels and beach clubs
Most chauffeur work on Mykonos runs between a handful of areas:
- Chora and Little Venice: the old town, the windmills of Kato Mili and the cocktail bars on the water.
- Agios Stefanos and Tourlos: hotels north of town, such as Cavo Tagoo, close to the new port.
- Ornos and Agios Ioannis: family-friendly bays with large resorts such as Santa Marina and the Mykonos Grand.
- Psarou and Platis Gialos: beach clubs and villas on the south coast, including Nammos at Psarou.
- Paraga and Paradise: beach clubs and the Scorpios venue on the Paraga headland.
- Elia, Kalo Livadi and Kalafatis: larger beaches further east, with villas on the hills above.
- Ano Mera: the inland village with the Panagia Tourliani monastery.

Arriving in Greece: EES, ETIAS and flights from the UK
Greece is in the Schengen area. Passengers on international flights from outside Schengen, such as those from the UK or Istanbul, clear passport control on landing at Mykonos, and since 10 April 2026 non-EU short-stay visitors register in the EU Entry/Exit System with their passport, fingerprints and a facial image the first time they enter. If you connect through Athens or another Schengen hub, the checks happen there and your Mykonos arrival is domestic or Schengen. ETIAS, the planned travel authorisation for visa-free visitors, is not yet in operation; the EU withdrew its late-2026 target in July 2026. See Travel to Europe for the current rules.
The season, by month
- April and May: the season opens; Greek Orthodox Easter often brings the first busy weekend.
- June: warm seas, full hotels by the end of the month, and wedding season underway.
- July and August: peak season, with the heaviest traffic, the busiest airport and many parties and festivals, typically in August.
- September: still warm and busy, especially the first half, with more cruise calls.
- October: many hotels and beach clubs close for the winter by the end of the month.

Getting to and from Athens and Santorini
Mykonos connects to the mainland by air and sea:

Delos and day trips
The UNESCO-listed archaeological site of Delos lies about 2 km off the west coast and is reached only by boat from the old port; there are no cars on Delos. A chauffeur can take you to the boat and collect you on return. Around the island, a half-day tour usually covers Chora, Little Venice, the windmills, Ano Mera and the lighthouse at Armenistis. Late-night returns and early departures
Mykonos nights run late, and the busiest hours for the roads are not always daytime. Beach clubs empty in the evening, dinners in Chora start after 21:00 and some venues close near dawn. A chauffeur booked for a return at a set time avoids the scramble at the taxi rank by the old port. Early ferries and first flights are also common: a 07:00 ferry from Tourlos or a morning flight to Athens needs a pickup that is confirmed the night before, not a hopeful call at 05:30. Put the exact departure time in the booking and the chauffeur works back from it.
