Diagoras Airport (RHO): pickup and timing
Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras" sits near the village of Paradisi on the island's west coast, roughly 14 km southwest of Rhodes Town. It is run by Fraport Greece and handles a very heavy seasonal schedule of charter and scheduled flights from April to October, with a much quieter winter. Arrivals exit on the ground floor. Standard pickup is at the designated pre-arranged transfer area outside arrivals; the chauffeur messages the exact spot and vehicle details once you land. Being met inside the Diagoras hall with a name board is an add-on; add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Your flight is tracked, so the Rhodes chauffeur works to the real landing time. Included waiting is 60 minutes on international arrivals, which covers passport control and the baggage belt on busy Saturdays, 30 minutes on domestic flights from Athens or other Greek airports, and 15 minutes on other pickups, then 15-minute blocks. Summer traffic on the east-coast road through Faliraki and Archangelos slows in the late afternoon, and the approach to Rhodes Town backs up on cruise days. The fare is fixed regardless.
Lindos, the car-free village and how drop-offs work
Lindos is the booking most visitors care about. The whitewashed village below the acropolis is closed to cars, so the chauffeur stops at the main square or the upper road above the village, and guests walk down the lanes or use the porters that villa owners arrange. Cruise ships berth at the port of Rhodes, right against the fortifications of the medieval city, so many passengers walk straight in through the gates. Rhodes Town: Old Town, New Town and the hotel strip
The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Knights of St John, is largely closed to general traffic, with narrow lanes like the Street of the Knights and only limited vehicle access. Drop-offs happen at the gates, such as the d'Amboise and Marine gates, or at the nearest permitted point for a boutique hotel inside the walls. The New Town to the north holds Mandraki harbour, the casino and city hotels, and the long hotel strip runs west to Ixia and Ialysos, where large resorts sit a few minutes from the airport.
Which vehicle for a Rhodes trip?
A Standard Sedan suits a couple with two cases. Families with beach gear, strollers and golf bags usually choose an executive SUV. A Standard Black SUV or Sprinter Van moves a wedding party or a villa group of up to a dozen, and minicoaches carry incentive groups to dinners in Lindos or Rhodes Town. Entering Greece at Rhodes: EES and ETIAS in 2026
Greece is in the Schengen area. Since the EU Entry/Exit System became fully operational on 10 April 2026, non-EU short-stay visitors arriving on an international flight have their fingerprints and facial image registered at the first Schengen border crossing instead of a passport stamp, which can add time at passport control on the first trip. Travellers arriving from Athens or another Schengen airport have already been processed. ETIAS, the separate travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors, is not yet in operation, and as of September 2026 the EU has not confirmed a launch date. Check the official EU travel site before flying. Ferries to Marmaris in Turkey leave from Rhodes harbour, and that crossing is a Schengen external border in both directions.
Seasons and events worth planning around
- Orthodox Easter, usually in April or early May, with candlelit processions and busy tavernas across the island.
- May to June: the season opens fully, weddings start in Lindos.
- July and August: peak charter flights, the heaviest cruise schedule and full resorts; book cars early.
- 15 August: the Dormition holiday, when villages hold festivals and roads near churches get crowded.
- September and October: warm sea, fewer crowds, a popular window for incentive trips.

Driving on Rhodes
Driving is on the right. The island has no motorways; the main roads run down the east coast to Lindos and down the west coast past Kamiros, with slower mountain roads between them. Village streets are tight and coaches create long queues on the Lindos road in summer mornings. Parking inside Lindos and the Old Town is effectively impossible, which is the main reason visitors hire a car with chauffeur rather than self-drive.

Cancel more than 72 hours before pickup at no charge. For a Rhodes trip cancelled within 72 hours the charge is 10%, within 48 hours 50%, and within 24 hours or on a no-show 100%. A delayed flight is tracked and never counts as a no-show.
