Terminal 1 and Terminal 2
Kempegowda International is at Devanahalli, about 35 km north of the city centre. Terminal 2, with its garden architecture, opened in 2022, and since 2023 international flights have used it.

Rail and bus alternatives
The airport is served by a halt station on the suburban rail network, with a shuttle to the terminals, but trains are infrequent. BMTC's Vayu Vajra air-conditioned buses run from the terminals to most parts of the city and are a good budget option. A Namma Metro line to the airport is under construction; for current progress see Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation. For now a car remains the only door-to-door option, and the one that works best with luggage and late-night flights.

Leaving Bengaluru for the airport
For an international departure from Whitefield or Electronic City, leave about three and a half hours before the flight on weekday afternoons. From Hebbal or Manyata, two and a half hours is usually enough. Early-morning departures move faster, since the city's roads are quietest before 7 am. Include the departing flight number on the return booking, so the Kempegowda drop-off is at the correct terminal.
Monsoon, traffic hotspots and night arrivals
Bengaluru's southwest monsoon, roughly June to September, and the northeast rains later in the year can flood underpasses and slow the Outer Ring Road, Silk Board junction and parts of Whitefield sharply. The chauffeur watches live traffic and chooses between the Bellary Road, Hennur and Thanisandra routes to reach the east side. Many international flights land between midnight and 5 am; at those hours the city is quiet and the drive to MG Road or Indiranagar can be close to an hour, but keep your phone on after landing so the chauffeur can guide you through the busy pickup zone.
