Kempegowda International Airport: T1, T2 and pickup
Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) is at Devanahalli, well north of the city. It has two terminals. Terminal 1 is the original building and handles most domestic flights. Terminal 2, the garden terminal with its bamboo-clad halls, opened in stages from 2022 and now handles international flights along with a share of domestic services. Check which terminal your airline uses on the day; the booking engine asks for the flight number and matches the terminal.

How long from the airport to Whitefield, Electronic City and the CBD?
The single road into the city from the airport, NH 44 (Ballari Road), carries almost all airport traffic past Yelahanka and Hebbal. The Hebbal flyover junction is the daily choke point; chauffeurs often use the parallel Hennur or Thanisandra roads to reach the east. Typical ranges:

Most business visitors to Bengaluru are heading to a campus, not a city-centre office. The main clusters:
- Whitefield and the ITPL corridor in the east: International Tech Park Bangalore, Prestige Tech Park towards Marathahalli, and a long line of campuses on Whitefield Main Road and Varthur Road.
- Outer Ring Road east: Embassy TechVillage, RMZ Ecoworld and Ecospace around Bellandur and Devarabisanahalli, one of the densest office corridors in India.
- Electronic City in the south: Phase 1 and Phase 2 along Hosur Road, reached by the elevated expressway from Silk Board junction.
- Manyata Embassy Business Park at Nagawara in the north, the most convenient large campus for the airport.
- Bagmane Tech Park at CV Raman Nagar and Embassy Golf Links off the Intermediate Ring Road, closer to the old airport area.
- Global Village Tech Park on Mysore Road in the south-west.
Security gates at these parks usually require the visitor's name to be registered with the host company in advance, and the car may need to stop at a visitor bay rather than the tower lobby. Put the host company and building in the booking notes. Hotels and districts you are likely to use
The central business district runs along MG Road, Residency Road, Vittal Mallya Road and Lavelle Road, where UB City sits. Hotels here include the JW Marriott, the Ritz-Carlton, ITC Gardenia and The Oberoi. The Taj West End stands in its old gardens near the Race Course, ITC Windsor is on Golf Course Road, and the Four Seasons at Embassy ONE is on Bellary Road, handy for the airport. The Leela Palace is on HAL Old Airport Road, between the CBD and the eastern tech corridors. In Whitefield, the Sheraton Grand and several business hotels sit within walking distance of ITPL.
Residential and dining districts include Indiranagar, Koramangala, Jayanagar and Sadashivanagar. Weekend drives often go to Nandi Hills, about 60 km north and only 25 to 30 km from the airport, where the sunrise viewpoint is popular enough that the gates open early and fill fast.
Venues and events by month
- January: the Lalbagh flower show around Republic Day, with heavy traffic near the botanical garden.
- February, odd-numbered years: Aero India at Air Force Station Yelahanka, directly on the airport road. The show closes lanes and slows every airport trip for the week; book well ahead.
- March to May: Indian Premier League cricket at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on MG Road, where evening matches close roads around Cubbon Park.
- March or April: the Karaga festival in the old city around Dharmaraya Swamy temple.
- August: the Independence Day flower show at Lalbagh; Ganesh Chaturthi falls in August or September.
- October or November: Deepavali, and many trips out to the Mysuru Dasara celebrations in October.
- November: the Bengaluru Tech Summit, usually held at a large exhibition venue; check the Karnataka Tourism and event sites for the year's dates.
Large conferences and trade fairs use the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on Tumkur Road in the north-west, about 45 to 60 minutes from the CBD, and Palace Grounds for concerts and weddings. Rail stations and intercity drives
Bengaluru's main railway stations are KSR Bengaluru City (Majestic) in the centre, Yesvantpur Junction in the north-west, SMVT Bengaluru at Baiyappanahalli in the east, and Bengaluru Cantonment. Shatabdi and Vande Bharat trains run to Chennai and Mysuru. For many trips a car is simpler:

Road realities: traffic, the metro and driving side
India drives on the left. Bengaluru has some of the slowest peak-hour traffic in the country, concentrated at Silk Board junction, the Outer Ring Road between Marathahalli and Hebbal, Hebbal flyover and Tin Factory on Old Madras Road. The Namma Metro now helps in two important places: the Purple Line runs all the way to Whitefield, and the Yellow Line, opened in 2025, reaches Electronic City from RV Road. The metro link to the airport is still under construction. For a visitor with luggage, a car remains the practical choice, and a chauffeur who knows the service roads and the back routes through HSR Layout saves real time. Two-wheelers filter on both sides of the car; your chauffeur will ask you to exit on the kerb side.
Arriving in India: e-visa and e-Arrival Card
Most foreign visitors need a visa. The Indian e-Visa (tourist, business, conference and medical categories) is applied for online at the official Indian Visa Online portal, ideally at least four days before arrival, and Bengaluru is one of the designated e-Visa entry airports. Print or save the approval (the Electronic Travel Authorisation) and carry the passport you applied with. Since 1 April 2026, all foreign nationals, including OCI cardholders, must also complete the digital e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before arrival, online or in the Su-Swagatam app, and show its QR code at immigration; paper disembarkation cards are no longer used.
