Cochin International Airport (COK): terminals and pickup
COK is at Nedumbassery, about 28 to 30 km northeast of Ernakulam. It became the world's first airport run fully on solar power in 2015. Terminal 1 handles domestic flights and Terminal 3 handles international flights, with heavy traffic from the Gulf, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Colombo. Standard pickup is at the designated area for pre-booked cars outside your terminal's arrivals exit; the chauffeur messages the car number and pillar when you land. A meet and greet at the arrivals exit with a name board is an add-on; add-ons are only available in selected locations. Flights are tracked, and waiting included is 60 minutes from landing on international arrivals, 30 minutes on domestic flights and 15 minutes on other pickups, then 15-minute blocks. The NH 544 corridor through Aluva and Kalamassery carries most airport traffic and slows at the Edappally junction. Night drives are much quicker.
Cruise ships at Cochin Port
Cruise ships berth at Ernakulam Wharf on Willingdon Island, where the Sagarika international cruise terminal, inaugurated in 2021, brings immigration, customs and security under one roof. Kochi is a regular call on Indian Ocean itineraries between Mumbai, Goa, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, and a turnaround port for some domestic cruises, mostly between October and April. We collect cruise passengers at the terminal's designated vehicle area and run shore-day tours: Fort Kochi, Mattancherry Palace, the Paradesi Synagogue and the Chinese fishing nets are 15 to 25 minutes away, and a backwater trip to Alleppey fits in a long port day. Kochi's districts, from the islands to the IT parks
- Fort Kochi and Mattancherry: the old port town at the western tip, with heritage hotels, the spice warehouses of Jew Town and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale venues.
- Willingdon Island: the port, the naval base and the cruise terminal, built on reclaimed land.
- Ernakulam: the mainland commercial centre around MG Road, Marine Drive and the High Court.

The Kochi Water Metro connects several islands by electric boat, and the Kochi Metro runs from Aluva through Ernakulam; neither reaches the airport with luggage as easily as a car.

Road trips into Kerala
- Alappuzha (Alleppey) houseboat jetties: about 55-60 km, 1.5-2 hours.
- Kumarakom and Vembanad Lake: about 75-80 km, 2-2.5 hours.
- Munnar: about 125-130 km, 3.5-4.5 hours, climbing the last hour through tea estates.
- Thekkady and Periyar: about 160 km, 4.5-5 hours.
- Thrissur: about 75 km, 1.5-2 hours, busiest during Thrissur Pooram.
- Varkala or Thiruvananthapuram: 160-210 km, 4-5.5 hours.

Rail stations
Ernakulam Junction (South) and Ernakulam Town (North) are the two main stations, with trains to Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi. Chauffeurs collect at the station forecourts. Aluva station is closer to the airport and useful for some northbound trains.
Events and seasons
- June to September: the southwest monsoon, with heavy rain and occasional flooding; travel continues but drives take longer.
- August or September: Onam, Kerala's harvest festival, and the snake boat races, including the Nehru Trophy on Punnamada Lake near Alleppey, usually in August.
- April or May: Thrissur Pooram.
- December to March or April, every other year: the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in Fort Kochi and Mattancherry.
- Late December: the Cochin Carnival in Fort Kochi, ending on New Year's Eve.

Vehicle choice
Executive SUVs suit the Munnar and Thekkady hill roads and monsoon conditions. Standard Sedans handle airport runs for one or two people. Standard Black SUVs and Sprinter Vans take families and cruise groups on shore tours; minicoaches move larger groups and crews. Every car is four model years old or younger. See the fleet.
Driving, tolls and arrival rules
Kerala drives on the left, and roads are narrow, busy with buses and two-wheelers, and often wet. FASTag tolls apply on the national highways. Most foreign visitors need a visa; many nationalities can apply for an e-Visa at Indian Visa Online, and Kochi is among the airports and seaports that accept e-Visa arrivals. Foreign nationals complete the digital e-Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.
