CSMIA terminals: T1 at Santacruz, T2 at Sahar

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has two terminals on different sides of the runways, and they are not a short walk apart.

• Terminal 2 (Sahar, Andheri East): all international flights and a large share of domestic flights. The terminal connects directly to the Sahar Elevated Road and the Western Express Highway.
• Terminal 1 (Santacruz, Vile Parle East): domestic flights only, used mainly by low-cost carriers.

Check your ticket and include the terminal and flight number in the booking. The standard service is curbside pickup at the terminal's designated area for pre-arranged cars, as set out on your confirmation. A name-board meet and greet at the arrivals exit is an add-on; add-ons are only available in selected locations, and the engine indicates whether it is possible for your flight. At Mumbai, only ticketed passengers may enter the terminal building, so greeters normally wait at the arrivals exit.

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI)

The city's second airport, at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, began commercial flights on 25 December 2025 and moved to round-the-clock operations in 2026. It serves mostly domestic routes so far. From South Mumbai it is usually 45 to 75 minutes via the Atal Setu, and from BKC about 60 to 90 minutes. Book it like any other pickup.

Drive times from the airport to Mumbai's business districts

The range is wide because Mumbai traffic is extreme at peak hours and in heavy rain. The best times are early morning and late evening.

The Sea Link and the Coastal Road

Two pieces of road infrastructure transformed trips to South Mumbai. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link, a cable-stayed bridge across Mahim Bay, carries traffic from Bandra to Worli and bypasses the congested Mahim junction; it is tolled. Since 2024, the Mumbai Coastal Road runs south from Worli along the shore to Marine Drive, partly through twin tunnels under Malabar Hill, and it now connects directly to the Sea Link. The coastal stretch itself is toll-free. Worli to Marine Drive, once 40 minutes at peak, now often takes 10 to 15.

Further east, the Atal Setu, opened in January 2024, crosses the harbour from Sewri to Nhava Sheva in about 20 minutes. It is the fast route to Navi Mumbai, the new airport, JNPA, Alibaug and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

BKC, Nariman Point and the Mumbai business map

Bandra Kurla Complex

BKC is the modern financial centre: the National Stock Exchange, the Jio World Centre and its convention halls, the US Consulate General, and banks and law firms in glass towers. Security gates at many towers mean the chauffeur needs the building name and your meeting host's details.

Nariman Point, Fort and Cuffe Parade

The traditional business district at the southern tip, with the Bombay Stock Exchange in Fort, the Reserve Bank's headquarters, the Oberoi and Trident at Nariman Point, and residential towers at Cuffe Parade.

Mumbai through the year

• January: the Tata Mumbai Marathon, usually on the third Sunday, closes the Sea Link and South Mumbai roads in the morning.
• February: the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival fills Fort with visitors.
• March to May: IPL cricket at Wankhede brings evening traffic around Churchgate and Marine Drive.
• June to September: the monsoon. Waterlogging at low spots such as the Andheri subway and Hindmata can divert traffic; allow extra time.
• August or September: Ganesh Chaturthi. On immersion days processions close large parts of the city, especially towards Girgaon Chowpatty and Juhu Beach.
• October or November: Diwali, with heavy shopping traffic and a festive wedding season that runs into the winter.

Cruise terminal and seaport crew changes

Mumbai is a cruise port and one of India's main maritime centres. The Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Ballard Pier, near Fort, handles ocean ships and domestic coastal cruises, a short drive from South Mumbai hotels and about 60 to 90 minutes from the airport. Most container traffic uses JNPA at Nhava Sheva across the harbour, reached from the city via the Atal Setu. Rail stations and trips out of Mumbai

The long-distance stations are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT, a UNESCO World Heritage building), Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Kurla, and Dadar. Station forecourts are crowded; the chauffeur uses the designated taxi and private-car bays.

Private jets and charter flights into Mumbai

Local realities: traffic, left-hand driving and horns

India drives on the left. Mumbai's traffic runs heaviest from about 9:00 to 11:30 and 17:30 to 21:00, and the Western Express Highway and SV Road are the pinch points in the suburbs. Metro construction has narrowed several roads in recent years, though new metro lines are also opening. FASTag electronic tolling is used at every plaza. Two-wheelers and autorickshaws weave through traffic in the suburbs (autorickshaws are not allowed in the island city south of Bandra and Sion), so chauffeurs keep speeds moderate, and set-down points at hotels and offices often sit behind security barriers where the car is checked before entry.

Arriving in India: e-Visa and e-Arrival card

Many nationalities can apply online for an Indian e-Visa (tourist, business, conference or medical) before travel, and Mumbai is one of the designated e-Visa entry airports. Since 1 October 2025, foreign nationals, including OCI cardholders, must also complete the electronic e-Arrival card within 72 hours before arriving; it has replaced the paper disembarkation card. Both are submitted through the official Indian visa portal. Immigration and baggage at T2 can take a while at night, when many long-haul flights land, so the 60-minute wait counts from touchdown.

Choosing a vehicle in Mumbai
