Terminal 2A, 2B and the SkyCourt
All passenger flights use Terminal 2. The old Terminal 1, beside the railway line, closed to scheduled traffic years ago. Terminal 2 is two halves joined by the SkyCourt building: 2A handles Schengen flights and 2B handles non-Schengen flights. Both halves share the same landside road, and the arrivals exits are a short walk apart.

Where you meet your chauffeur at BUD
The standard service is curbside collection in the zone Budapest Airport assigns to pre-booked and contracted vehicles in front of Terminal 2. When your bags are with you, message or call the chauffeur, who will send the exact bay or exit. On a standard booking the chauffeur waits at the car, not inside the arrivals hall.
A welcome with a name sign at the arrivals exit is available as meet and greet. Add-ons are only available in selected locations, and you will see at the booking stage whether it can be added at Budapest.
Passport control and the Entry/Exit System in Budapest
Hungary is in the Schengen area, so Terminal 2A arrivals from other Schengen countries skip passport control and usually reach the curb 15 to 25 minutes after landing. Terminal 2B arrivals are checked by Hungarian border police, and non-EU visitors are enrolled in the EU Entry/Exit System on their first entry, with fingerprints and a facial image. Plan 30 to 60 minutes from landing to the car after a long-haul or UK flight.
ETIAS is not yet in operation. When it does start, it will be announced on the EU travel portal, which also explains EES.
Drive times from Budapest Airport
The airport is about 16 km south-east of central Pest. Most transfers use the Ferihegyi gyorsforgalmi út and then Üllői út or Könyves Kálmán körút.

- Parliament and Lipótváros: 30 to 40 minutes.
- Váci út office corridor (District XIII): 30 to 45 minutes.
- Buda Castle District and the Danube's Buda bank: 35 to 50 minutes.
- Hungaroring (Mogyoród): 35 to 50 minutes via the M0 ring.
- Lake Balaton, south shore: about 1 h 30 to 2 h.
- Vienna: about 2 h 30 to 3 h by motorway.
Balaton, Vienna, Bratislava or Prague are booked as intercity transfers.
Public transport options from BUD
There is no rail station at Terminal 2. The 100E airport express bus runs direct to Deák Ferenc tér in roughly 35 to 45 minutes, and bus 200E connects to the M3 metro at Kőbánya-Kispest. A suburban rail stop, Ferihegy, is near the former Terminal 1 but needs a bus connection. Fares and routes are on the BKK Budapest transport site.
For a single traveller with light luggage the 100E is fine. With several bags, with children, for late arrivals, or when a meeting follows soon after landing, a booked car is quicker and simpler.

Formula 1 weekend and other peak dates
The Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring is usually held in late July or early August, and it is the busiest week of the year for ground transport around Budapest. Traffic on the M0 and M3 builds early on race days, and the circuit runs strict access and drop-off plans. Book as far ahead as you can, consider an hourly booking rather than a return transfer, and follow the circuit's published access rules on the Hungaroring official site. Summer festivals and the Christmas markets on Vörösmarty tér also keep the city busy.

Spa hotels, thermal baths and the islands
Many visitors come to Budapest for its thermal baths, and several of the city's best-known hotels sit on or beside them. The Gellért baths are at the foot of Gellért Hill on the Buda side, about 35 to 45 minutes from the airport, while the Széchenyi baths are in City Park in Pest, around 30 to 40 minutes away. Margaret Island, in the Danube between the two halves of the city, is largely closed to private cars; hotel guests there are dropped at the permitted access point. If you are combining a spa stay with a Lake Balaton or Hévíz visit, a single booking with an intercity leg avoids a second trip back through the airport corridor.
Getting around central Budapest by car
Hungary drives on the right. The inner districts of Pest are a grid of one-way streets, and parts of the Castle District are closed to general traffic, so drop-offs are made at the nearest permitted point. Bridges across the Danube can be slow at rush hour, which is why the Buda side takes longer from the airport than the map suggests.
