The Muscat airport terminal
Muscat's passenger terminal opened in 2018 and handles all scheduled flights, including Oman Air and SalamAir, in one large building near Seeb on the Batinah coast. International and domestic arrivals (Salalah, Duqm, Khasab) share the complex, with separate reclaim areas. Official flight information is on the Oman Airports site.
Where will the chauffeur be when I land?
Collection is curbside at the zone the airport designates for pre-arranged and hotel cars outside the arrivals exit. Once you have your luggage, contact the chauffeur; they give you the lane or pillar number and drive up. By default the chauffeur does not come inside the terminal.

Visas, immigration and customs timing at MCT
Oman allows many nationalities visa-free short stays and offers an online visa through the Royal Oman Police eVisa system for others; check the current list before you travel. Immigration at the 2018 terminal is usually 15 to 35 minutes, longer when several flights from the Indian subcontinent land together around midnight. Customs checks can be thorough for medication, drones and alcohol above the allowance.
The included waiting period is 60 minutes from the actual landing on international flights and 30 minutes on domestic flights from Salalah or Khasab. After that, waiting continues in 15-minute blocks, and the chauffeur simply needs a message.
How long does it take to drive from Muscat airport?
The airport is on the western side of the capital area, and Muscat stretches about 50 km along the coast between the Batinah plain and the mountains. The Sultan Qaboos Street and the Muscat Expressway are the two main east-west roads.

- Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre: 5 to 10 minutes; it sits right next to the airport.
- Al Khuwair and the ministries: 15 to 25 minutes.

Is there public rail from Muscat airport?
No. Oman has no passenger railway in service, and the planned Hafeet Rail link toward the UAE starts from Sohar in the north, not from the capital. Mwasalat public buses connect the airport with parts of the city. For hotel arrivals with bags, and for resort transfers to Barr Al Jissah, a chauffeured car is the practical choice.

Mountain and wadi day trips
Oman's interior draws many visitors straight from the airport: Nizwa Fort, Jebel Akhdar, Wadi Shab and the Wahiba Sands. Sedans suit the paved highways to Nizwa and Sur. Jebel Akhdar's road has a police checkpoint that admits only four-wheel-drive vehicles, so book an SUV and confirm the route with the coordinator.
