Capital or Daxing: check your ticket first
Beijing has two large international airports, and they are about 65 kilometres apart. Capital (PEK), north-east of the city, is closer to the Central Business District, Sanlitun and the embassy area. Daxing (PKX), far to the south, took over many airlines when it opened in 2019. Before you book, look at the three-letter code on your ticket. If it says PEK, you are in the right place.
How to book a PEK transfer

Terminal 3 is one of the largest single airport buildings in the world, so allow a little time to walk from the gate. Terminals 2 and 3 are several kilometres apart by road; a free shuttle bus connects them.
Meeting the chauffeur at PEK
The standard service is curbside pickup at the zone Capital Airport assigns to pre-arranged and online-booked private cars, reached from the arrivals level. After immigration and customs, message or call the chauffeur, who will tell you the door number, parking level or bay. The chauffeur waits at the vehicle. If you would like to be met at the arrivals exit with a name board, add meet and greet at booking. Add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Entry rules and timing
China now offers visa-free entry to many nationalities for short stays and an extended visa-free transit programme for travellers going on to a third country, but eligibility depends on your passport, the purpose of travel and the onward ticket. Check the current position with the National Immigration Administration or the Chinese embassy before travel. Allow 30 to 60 minutes from landing to the car; more in the busiest morning bank. Included waiting is 60 minutes from the actual landing, then 15-minute blocks.
Drive times from Capital Airport
The airport is about 25 kilometres from the Guomao interchange, reached by the Airport Expressway or the Second Airport Expressway. China drives on the right, and Beijing's ring roads carry very heavy traffic at peak hours.

Airport Express train versus a car
The Capital Airport Express metro line runs from Terminals 2 and 3 to Sanyuanqiao and Dongzhimen in roughly 20 minutes, with onward connections on the Beijing Subway. It is cheap and quick for a light traveller staying near those stations. The catch is the change at Dongzhimen, which involves long corridors and escalators, and the fact that most five-star hotels in Guomao or Wangfujing are still a taxi ride from the train. A car takes you door to door with bags in the boot.

Government, diplomatic and corporate visits
Beijing is the seat of China's central government and home to most embassies, and much of the PEK work is for delegations, visiting officials and government and diplomatic travellers. Official motorcades and security escorts are arranged by the relevant authorities, not by us, but support vehicles and staff transfers can be planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing. For companies, corporate accounts provide monthly invoicing, cost centres and duty-of-care trip data.
Beyond the city: the Great Wall and Tianjin
A popular way to use a spare afternoon is a car to the Great Wall at Mutianyu, about 70 to 100 minutes from the airport, or Badaling. These are booked as city tours and day trips with an hourly minimum of three hours. Intercity transfers to Tianjin take two to three hours by road; the high-speed train from Beijing South is faster, and a car can take you to the station.
Weather, holidays and traffic control
Beijing's winters are cold and dry, and spring can bring dust storms from the north. Traffic control during major national meetings, usually held in March, and during large state events can close roads around Tiananmen and slow the Airport Expressway. The Spring Festival and the National Day Golden Week in early October bring heavy airport crowds. The chauffeur will route around closures, and your fare stays fixed.
Late-night arrivals at Capital
Several long-haul flights from Europe and North America land at Capital in the afternoon, but others arrive late in the evening, after the Airport Express has slowed to its last services. Taxi queues at Terminal 3 can be long at that hour, and a pre-booked car is waiting when you come out. On empty roads the drive to Guomao can take under 40 minutes. For early-morning departures, remember that Terminal 3 is very large: allow time to reach the right check-in island, and aim to arrive three hours before an international flight.
Fares and cancellation
Planning ranges by class are on the rates page. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup, 10% at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show.
Connecting flights and separate tickets
If you land at Capital on an international flight and continue on a domestic flight with the same ticket, the connection is handled inside the airport. If your onward flight is on a separate ticket, or leaves from Daxing, you will collect your bags, clear customs and travel landside. A car between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 takes 10 to 20 minutes, and between Capital and Daxing 70 to 100 minutes, so book the transfer against your arriving flight number so any delay is covered.
