What makes Daxing different
Daxing opened in 2019 on the border of Beijing and Hebei, around 45 kilometres south of Tiananmen Square. International arrivals come through immigration and customs in the central hall. Rail from Daxing
The Daxing Airport Express metro line reaches Caoqiao, on the southern edge of the city, in about 20 minutes, with connections to Metro Line 10 and onward lines. The Beijing-Xiong'an intercity railway also stops beneath the terminal, with trains towards central Beijing and to Xiong'an. For a light traveller with a hotel near a metro station, the train is quick and inexpensive. For anyone heading to the CBD or Sanlitun with bags, the rail route involves at least one change, and a car is usually simpler.

Daxing is well placed for travellers catching a high-speed train from Beijing South Railway Station to Shanghai, Tianjin or Jinan, since both sit on the southern side of the city. Allow 40 to 60 minutes by car, plus time for the station's ticket and security checks, which are strict and can queue at holiday peaks.
Xiong'an and Hebei trips
Xiong'an New Area, a planned city in Hebei south-west of Beijing, is a growing destination for government and corporate visitors. From Daxing it is 60 to 90 minutes by car on the Beijing-Xiong'an Expressway. These longer intercity transfers are booked at a fixed fare for the full route.

Daxing handles flights late into the evening and from early morning, and the airport express metro does not run through the night. For morning departures, allow three hours before an international flight, because the security and passport queues at Daxing can build quickly when the first long-haul bank leaves.
Planning the day around a long drive
Because Daxing is further out than Capital, the time in the car is a real part of the day. Many executives book a Luxury Executive Sedan so they can take calls on the way in, and schedule the first meeting at least two hours after the planned landing.
