One terminal, three sectors
YUL has a single terminal building in Dorval, divided into three sectors: domestic flights within Canada, international flights, and transborder flights to and from the United States. All arrivals exit on the arrivals level, and international and US passengers come out after Canadian customs.

Customs and waiting at YUL

Quebec law requires winter tyres on passenger vehicles from 1 December to 15 March, and Montreal's winters bring regular snowfalls; road construction is heavy the rest of the year. Québec 511 posts closures.
Can I take the train or REM?
The REM, Montreal's new automated light metro, is building an airport branch with a station at the terminal; until that opens, there is no rail service at YUL. STM's 747 bus runs 24 hours a day between the airport and downtown, taking roughly 45 to 70 minutes depending on traffic. For intercity trains to Quebec City, Ottawa and Toronto, VIA Rail leaves from Montreal Central Station, reachable by car in 25 to 40 minutes. With luggage or a destination outside downtown, a pre-booked car is simpler.

Grand Prix, festivals and conventions
Montreal's summer calendar is dense. Driving in Montreal
Montreal is an island, and every trip off it crosses a bridge or a tunnel, so closures on the Champlain, Jacques-Cartier or Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine crossings can reshape a journey. Right turns on red are not allowed anywhere on the island of Montreal, unlike the rest of Quebec and most of North America, and road signs are in French. Construction cones, known locally as the city's orange season, appear on major routes from spring to autumn. Montreal for first-time visitors
Most visitors split their stay between downtown and Old Montreal, with Mount Royal park, the Plateau and Mile End a short ride away.
