Canada Place at a glance
Canada Place, the pier with the white sail roofline on Burrard Inlet, is run by the Port of Vancouver and has three cruise berths. Most sailings are round trips or one-way voyages to Alaska between spring and October, and many lines that sail the Inside Passage use it. The Pan Pacific Vancouver hotel sits on the same pier, and the Vancouver Convention Centre is next door. Cars reach the terminal from Canada Place Way down to the vehicle level, where porters and signage take over.
US preclearance before Alaska
Passengers boarding for Alaska clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Canada Place before they board, because the voyage enters US waters. That makes check-in slower than at many ports, and it is why lines are strict about arrival windows. Have passports and any visas ready; the CBP site explains preclearance. The Canada Line SkyTrain also links YVR with Waterfront station, but with several large cases a car to the vehicle level is easier.
Flying into YVR for your sailing
Add your flight number and the chauffeur is timed to the real landing. Included waiting is 60 minutes on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic flights from actual landing. The standard pickup is at YVR's designated pre-arranged pickup area outside arrivals; an arrivals-hall greeting with a name board is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations. Disembarkation morning
Ships usually arrive around dawn. Passengers finishing in Vancouver go through Canadian border processing, collect bags and exit to the vehicle level. The car waits in the ground transportation area set aside for pre-booked vehicles. Book the pickup for your group's expected release, and send the chauffeur a message when you have your cases. Fifteen minutes of waiting are included from the booked time, after which waiting runs in 15-minute blocks.
Seattle, Whistler and Victoria connections
Many Alaska passengers fly into or out of Seattle to save on airfare. A one-way intercity transfer from Canada Place to Sea-Tac or a Seattle hotel is a common booking; allow for the land border, which can add anything from ten minutes to over an hour, and carry passports for everyone. Arriving by rail at Pacific Central
Some passengers come north from Seattle on the Amtrak Cascades or across Canada on VIA Rail's Canadian, and both use Pacific Central Station on Main Street. From there to Canada Place is about 3 km, 10 to 15 minutes by car. Book the station pickup for the train's scheduled arrival; if it runs late, message the desk and the chauffeur is re-timed. Cross-border trains from the US clear Canadian customs inside the station, which can add time before you reach the curb.

Hotels before and after sailing
The Pan Pacific on the pier itself, the Fairmont Waterfront across the street and the Fairmont Pacific Rim in Coal Harbour are the closest. Yaletown and the West End suit longer stays. A pre-cruise night removes the risk of a late connection into YVR.
Private tours from the terminal
Three-hour hourly bookings cover Stanley Park, Prospect Point and English Bay; Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain on the North Shore; or Gastown, Chinatown and Granville Island. Cancel more than 72 hours before pickup at no cost; 10% applies at 72 hours or less, 50% at 48 hours or less, and 100% at 24 hours or less or for a no-show.
