Hanscom Field in brief
Laurence G. Hanscom Field is a general aviation airport in Bedford, about 15 miles northwest of downtown Boston, owned and run by the Massachusetts Port Authority, Massport, which also operates Logan. It shares the airfield with Hanscom Air Force Base, and it is the main business-aviation airport for the Boston area. There is no regular airline service. Meeting the aircraft: FBO door or planeside?
The usual arrangement is simple: the chauffeur waits at the FBO's front entrance, you walk through the lobby, and line staff bring your bags. Planeside pickup is considered case by case. It happens only when the FBO and the aircraft operator approve ramp access for that vehicle and chauffeur on that day. Ask for it in the booking and we will confirm the answer in writing before you fly; we cannot guarantee it.
Customs for flights from Europe and Canada
Transatlantic business jets and flights from Canada must clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection, with manifests sent before departure. Whether your aircraft can clear at Hanscom at the planned hour, or at another port of entry first, is a question for your FBO and flight department; it changes the arrival time we plan around. Storrow Drive and Memorial Drive have low bridges and ban commercial vehicles, so Sprinter Vans take the Massachusetts Turnpike instead, which can change the time a little. Traffic information is on Mass511.
Biotech, universities and the Route 128 corridor
Hanscom's position makes it the natural airport for the Route 128 technology belt and for Cambridge. Investors visiting several labs in a day, university trustees attending meetings and executives touring research campuses often book hourly chauffeur service, minimum three hours, so the same car waits between Kendall Square, Waltham and Lexington. Larger visiting groups with several vehicles are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing.
Busy dates around Boston
Commencement season in May and early June brings families of graduates to the FBOs. The Boston Marathon is run on Patriots' Day, the third Monday in April, and closes roads from Hopkinton to Back Bay. The Head of the Charles regatta usually fills Cambridge in October, which is also fall foliage season, when many flights continue on to the Berkshires or Vermont. Which vehicle for a Hanscom arrival?
- Luxury Executive Sedan (S-Class class, 2/2): one or two executives to a Cambridge lab or a Back Bay hotel.
- Executive First Class Sedan (Maybach) (2/2): a principal who wants a quiet cabin for calls into town.
- Executive Black SUV (Navigator/Escalade class, 6/6): a family with suitcases for a house in Weston or the Cape.
- Standard Black SUV (Suburban class, 6/6): a visiting team with equipment cases, or snowy-season travel.

Cape Cod and the islands

What the fare includes
The fare is fixed for the address, date, time and vehicle. Waiting is included for 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic one, with 15-minute blocks after that. Child seats are free on request. Cancel more than 72 hours out and nothing is charged; at 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less, or on a no-show, 100%.
