Which trains use Atocha?
The station was renamed Madrid Puerta de Atocha - Almudena Grandes in 2022 and is run by the infrastructure manager Adif. It is the city's main high-speed hub for the south and east of Spain:
- Renfe AVE and Avlo to Barcelona, Seville, Málaga, Valencia, Alicante and other cities.
- Iryo high-speed trains on the Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Málaga routes.
- Ouigo low-cost high-speed trains to Barcelona, Valencia and Andalusia.
- Cercanías commuter trains through the underground Atocha station, including the C-1 towards Barajas T4.
Some long-distance routes, particularly towards the north-west, use Madrid Chamartín - Clara Campoamor instead, so check which station your ticket names before booking.
Entrances and where cars pick up
The complex joins the historic 1892 iron-and-glass hall to the modern high-speed terminal. High-speed arrivals exit on their own level, separate from departures, and lead towards the taxi rank and the areas for pre-booked cars on the Méndez Álvaro side and the Glorieta de Carlos V / Paseo de la Infanta Isabel side. Construction work at Atocha has shifted access points more than once, so we send you the current pick-up point before your train arrives rather than relying on an old map.
How the chauffeur meets you
Curbside at the designated pick-up area is the standard service. The chauffeur waits with the car and does not come onto the platform or into the arrivals hall by default. A concourse meet with a name board is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations; the reservation engine shows if it applies to your train. Train tracking means timing to the actual arrival. If a train from Seville is held outside Madrid, the pickup follows it. Included waiting is 15 minutes from the real arrival, then billed in 15-minute blocks.
Luggage at Atocha
Spanish high-speed trains have luggage racks at coach ends and overhead space, and the walk from the arrivals platforms to the street is level with lifts and escalators. Trolleys are limited, so wheeled cases are the easiest. For two people with large cases a Luxury Executive Sedan is fine; for four or more with checked-size bags choose a Standard Black SUV or Executive Black SUV.

Hotels and business districts
Atocha is at the bottom of the Paseo del Prado, so the museum-quarter hotels are a few minutes away, and the Gran Vía and Puerta del Sol hotels about 10 to 15 minutes. Business travellers usually head north up the Castellana to the AZCA towers or the Cuatro Torres Business Area, and trade-fair visitors to IFEMA near the airport. Madrid has a low-emission zone (ZBE) that restricts older vehicles; the licensed VTC cars used by our affiliates meet the access rules, so this is a fact about the city rather than anything you need to manage.
Madrid by road: intercity alternatives
For places the high-speed network does not reach well, a car is simpler. Toledo is about 75 km and roughly an hour; Segovia about 90 km and 1 h 15 through the Guadarrama tunnel; Ávila about 1 h 20; El Escorial about 50 minutes; Salamanca about 2 h 15. - Standard Sedan: one or two passengers, two bags, a quick run to Barajas.
- Luxury Executive Sedan: an S-Class-level car for a meeting on the Castellana.

Cancellation
A Atocha booking can be cancelled free of charge while pickup is more than 72 hours away. After that it costs 10 % of the fare, rising to 50 % at 48 hours and to the whole fare at 24 hours or on a no-show.
