Trains into Munich
München Hbf is a terminus with more than 30 surface platforms, including the Starnberger and Holzkirchner wing stations on either side of the main hall. Deutsche Bahn ICE trains arrive from Berlin in about 4 hours, from Frankfurt in about 3 hours 10 minutes and from Nuremberg in about 1 hour. ÖBB Railjets run to Salzburg and Vienna, EuroCity trains to Zurich and to Verona and Italy over the Brenner, and ÖBB Nightjets to several European capitals. Regional trains serve Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Bavarian lakes and Füssen.
Under the station, the S-Bahn trunk line and U-Bahn lines U1, U2, U4 and U5 connect with the city and the airport lines S1 and S8.
A station under construction
A multi-year rebuild of the main station hall is under way, alongside the digging of the second S-Bahn trunk line (2. Stammstrecke) beneath it. Temporary entrances, fenced walkways and moved taxi ranks are normal. Build a few extra minutes into any tight connection, and follow the on-site signs rather than an old map.
The station has three main street sides:
- Bahnhofplatz (east): facing the Old Town, Karlsplatz (Stachus) and the tram stops
- Arnulfstraße (north): used by long-distance coaches nearby and for car access
- Bayerstraße (south): towards the Theresienwiese and the hotel streets of the Ludwigsvorstadt
Pickup rules and where to find the car
Curbside is the standard service. Pre-booked cars may stop only in the marked drop-off and pick-up areas on the Arnulfstraße and Bayerstraße sides or at the temporary zones set up during the works; the taxi ranks are reserved for taxis. Your chauffeur confirms the exact spot by text or call when your train arrives.
A platform or hall meet with a name board is available through meet and greet as an add-on. Add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Following your train
The dispatch team monitors your train number, so a Railjet held at the Austrian border or an ICE delayed by works shifts the chauffeur's timing automatically. After the real arrival, 15 minutes of waiting are included; after that, 15-minute blocks are charged.
Luggage and ski equipment
Munich is the gateway to the Alps, and winter trains are full of skis and boot bags. Oktoberfest and trade fairs
The Theresienwiese, home of the Oktoberfest, is about a ten-minute walk south-west of the station. The festival usually runs for 16-18 days from mid or late September, ending on the first Sunday in October or on 3 October, and during that time the Bayerstraße side is crowded and some streets close. Book early and expect your chauffeur to use the Arnulfstraße side.
Large fairs at Messe München, including those usually held in spring and autumn, fill hotels citywide. Exhibition teams can hold a car with an hourly chauffeur (three-hour minimum).
Alpine and cross-border drives
Munich is a common start for intercity transfers that the train handles badly:
- Salzburg, about 145 km, 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes
- Kitzbühel, about 160 km, 2 hours
- Innsbruck, about 165 km, 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours
- Garmisch-Partenkirchen, about 90 km, 1 hour 15 minutes
- Neuschwanstein and Füssen, about 125 km, 1 hour 45 minutes
- Lake Tegernsee, about 55 km, 1 hour
- Nuremberg, about 170 km, 1 hour 45 minutes

Pasing and München Ost
Some trains also stop at München-Pasing, in the west, which suits the Nymphenburg area and journeys towards Lake Starnberg and the A96, and at München Ost, which is closer to Messe München and Haidhausen. If you would rather leave the train there, enter that station as the pickup and the chauffeur will meet you at its designated pick-up area.
Which of the nine classes?
