The UNESCO-listed old town sits on the left bank of the Salzach under the Hohensalzburg fortress, and much of it is a pedestrian zone with controlled access. Winter: ski resorts and Saturday charters
From December to April, Salzburg Airport becomes a gateway to the Salzburg province ski resorts and the Ski amadé area. Transfers most often go to Zell am See and Kaprun (about 1 h 15 to 1 h 30), Saalbach-Hinterglemm (about 1 h 30), Flachau and Wagrain (about 1 hour), Obertauern (about 1 h 15) and Bad Gastein. Saturdays are the crunch day: charter flights arrive into Terminal 2 in waves and the Tauern motorway (A10) and the valley roads carry resort traffic in both directions.
