Trains at Vienna's main station
Wien Hauptbahnhof opened in stages up to 2015, replacing the old Südbahnhof, and is the hub of the ÖBB network.

Entrances and the designated pick-up areas
The station is a long, diamond-roofed structure with platforms raised above street level. The main entrances are at Südtiroler Platz on the north-west side, towards the city centre and the U1, and on the Sonnwendgasse / Favoriten side to the east, which faces the Sonnwendviertel district. Taxi ranks, short-stay parking and pick-up zones for pre-booked cars are at street level on these sides, along the Wiedner Gürtel and Sonnwendgasse. How the chauffeur meets you
The standard service is a curbside meeting at the designated area. Chauffeurs do not go up to the platforms by default. A concourse meet with a name board is an add-on and add-ons are only available in selected locations; the reservation engine shows if it can be added. See meet and greet.
Train tracking times the chauffeur to the real arrival. Nightjets arriving in the morning can run late after a long night; you are not charged for that. Included waiting is 15 minutes from the actual arrival, then 15-minute blocks.
Arriving on an overnight train
Nightjets and other sleepers usually reach Vienna between early morning and mid-morning, often just as the Gürtel traffic peaks. If you are heading to a meeting straight away, give the chauffeur the meeting address rather than your hotel, and ask the hotel to hold bags; the car can drop luggage at the hotel afterwards within an hourly booking. Early check-in is up to the hotel, but Vienna's larger hotels are used to morning arrivals from the sleepers.
Luggage
Every platform has lifts and escalators down to the main hall, and luggage trolleys are available. Nightjet passengers often travel with more bags; a Standard Black SUV (six passengers, six bags) or Executive Black SUV is comfortable for families, and a Sprinter Van carries 12 passengers with 12 small bags.

Hotels and business districts
The grand hotels on and around the Ringstrasse, such as the Sacher, Imperial and Bristol, are ten to fifteen minutes away. Diplomatic and UN traffic goes to the Vienna International Centre across the Danube, which hosts the IAEA, UNIDO and UNODC. Congresses at the Austria Center Vienna and fairs at Messe Wien are 15 to 25 minutes. The winter ball season, January to early March, fills hotels and evening roads. Intercity alternatives by car
Vienna sits close to several borders. Bratislava is about 80 km and roughly an hour; Budapest about 245 km and 2 h 45; Brno about 1 h 45; Prague about 330 km and 3 h 30 to 4 hours. Inside Austria, the Wachau valley and Melk Abbey are about 1 h 15, Salzburg about 3 hours, and the Semmering around 1 h 15. Austrian motorways require a vignette, which affiliate vehicles carry. Winter trips to the Semmering or the Alps may need snow chains or winter tyres, which Austrian law requires in wintry conditions; the affiliate handles the vehicle side, and you only need to allow extra time.
