About Grantley Adams International
BGI sits in the parish of Christ Church, close to the south coast and the Crane area, about 16 km from Bridgetown. It has a single passenger terminal for all international and regional flights, with long-haul services from London and other European cities, and direct flights from the US and Canada. Arrival: the online travel form and immigration
Barbados asks travellers to complete an online immigration and customs form before arrival, which produces a code that officers check at the desk. It is available on the government's travel form portal. Doing it before you fly makes a real difference when a wide-body jet from London lands at the same time as a flight from New York. Expect 25 to 45 minutes from landing to the exit on a normal day, and up to an hour when several flights overlap in the afternoon.

Barbados drives on the left. The ABC Highway, a string of roundabouts named after three national figures, carries most of the airport traffic to the west coast. Morning and afternoon rush hours around Bridgetown are the slowest part of any trip. North of the capital, the west coast road, Highway 1, is narrow and passes villages, shops and beach access points, so traffic moves slowly through Paynes Bay and Holetown even outside the peaks. Villas along the Platinum Coast often sit down private lanes with gates, so add the villa name, gate code and access notes to the booking, and the chauffeur will call ahead if a code is needed.
Is there rail or public transport?
There is no railway in Barbados. The island's buses, including the privately run minibuses and route taxis, cover the whole island cheaply, but they are not suited to arriving luggage. The practical options for arriving visitors are licensed taxis, rental cars or a pre-booked car with a chauffeur.

Leaving Barbados: the airport run
Most transatlantic flights from BGI leave in the late afternoon or evening, while North American flights depart earlier in the day. Allow about three hours at the airport before a long-haul departure. From the west coast, the drive back takes 40 to 65 minutes, more at the evening rush around Bridgetown, so a Holetown villa guest on a 17:00 flight typically leaves around 12:45. Long-haul arrivals from Europe
Many of Barbados's visitors arrive on long-haul flights from the UK and Europe, landing in the afternoon after eight to nine hours in the air.
