Terminals at Tan Son Nhat
Tan Son Nhat sits inside the city, about 7 km north of the historic centre, which makes it one of the most central major airports in Asia. It has three passenger terminals.

Domestic airlines have been moving flights into Terminal 3, so the flight number is the reliable guide. Long Thanh International Airport, in Dong Nai province about 40 km east of the city, is being built to take over a large share of international traffic; if your ticket names Long Thanh rather than Tan Son Nhat, book the pickup there instead.

Rail and bus alternatives
The city's first metro line, Line 1 from Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien, opened in late 2024 but does not serve the airport. Although the airport is close to the centre, the drive back can be slow. Include the departing flight number on the return booking, so the Tan Son Nhat drop-off is at the correct terminal.
Tet, holidays and the rainy season
Tet, the Lunar New Year, usually falls in late January or February. In the days before it, the airport and roads out of the city are extremely busy, and in the days after, the city is unusually quiet. The rainy season runs roughly from May to November, with short, heavy afternoon storms that can flood some streets for an hour or two. Book early for Tet travel; the fixed fare does not change with weather or demand.
Where visitors stay
Most international hotels are in the historic centre around Dong Khoi, Nguyen Hue and Le Loi, close to the Opera House and Ben Thanh Market.
