Mendoza winery chauffeur: the most common booking
Most Mendoza bookings are tasting days. You choose an hourly booking with a start time, a first address and an approximate return, and the engine shows the fixed fare for that block. The chauffeur waits at each bodega while you taste and lunch. Argentina's national zero-alcohol law for drivers (Ley 27.714) applies here, which rules out driving yourself after a tasting. Wineries run on appointments. Book tastings directly with each bodega and give the desk the list of times; the chauffeur plans the route between them. Groups visiting several wineries in two or three cars are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing.

The Uco Valley sits at around 1,000 to 1,500 m under the Andes and is reached on Ruta 40 and Ruta 86 or 89. Governor Francisco Gabrielli International Airport (MDZ)
Mendoza's airport, known locally as El Plumerillo, lies in Las Heras about 8 km north of the city centre. Most traffic is domestic, with the busiest route to Buenos Aires (roughly 1 hour 50 minutes), plus regional international links such as Santiago de Chile. International arrivals clear Argentine immigration and customs in the terminal.
Pickup for booked private cars is at the airport's designated pickup area outside arrivals, and the chauffeur messages the plate and position on landing. A meet and greet with a name board inside arrivals is an add-on; add-ons are only available in selected locations. Every flight is tracked: 60 minutes of waiting are included from landing on international flights and 30 minutes on domestic, with 15 minutes on other pickups and 15-minute blocks after that. Where you stay: city, Chacras or the valley
Central Mendoza is a grid of tree-lined streets around the Plaza Independencia, with the Park Hyatt Mendoza on the square and other business hotels nearby. Wide irrigation ditches, the acequias, line the kerbs, which is why chauffeurs stop at corners rather than mid-block. The Parque General San Martin and the Cerro de la Gloria sit on the western edge. Chacras de Coria, south in Lujan de Cuyo, has boutique hotels among the vines. Wine lodges, such as those around Vistalba and in the Uco Valley, put you next to the vineyards but far from restaurants, so an evening car matters there.
Vendimia and the harvest calendar
The grape harvest runs roughly from February to April. The Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia is the city's biggest event, usually over the first weekend of March, with the Via Blanca night parade and the Carrusel parade through the centre and the main show at the Frank Romero Day Greek theatre in the park. Mountain day trips on Ruta 7
West of the city, Ruta 7 climbs through Potrerillos and Uspallata toward the Andes:
- Potrerillos reservoir: about 60 km, 1 hour, for lake views and lunch.
- Uspallata: about 110 km, 1.75 to 2 hours, in a high valley.
- Aconcagua Provincial Park and Puente del Inca: about 180 km, 2.5 to 3 hours, with views of Aconcagua, at 6,961 m the highest mountain outside Asia.

Crossing to Santiago de Chile
Mendoza to Santiago is about 360 km over the Cristo Redentor pass (Paso Internacional Los Libertadores), usually 6 to 8 hours plus border time at the joint control post. The pass closes for snow at times in winter, sometimes for days. A cross-border transfer needs vehicle permits and insurance valid in both countries, so it is planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing. An executive SUV is the usual choice for two to four people: comfortable on gravel lanes to estates and roomy for the cases you buy. Standard Sedans cover city and airport runs. Standard Black SUVs and Sprinter Vans suit groups of six to twelve tasting together, and minicoaches carry corporate incentive groups. Mendoza affiliates run cars four model years old or younger. Driving and local realities
Driving is on the right. Traffic in the city is moderate, with a lunchtime rush because many businesses still close in the early afternoon. Summer days are hot and dry, and the Zonda, a hot, dusty mountain wind, blows in some months, mainly winter and spring. Police run alcohol checks on the roads around the wine areas. Rural lanes to smaller bodegas are gravel; a chauffeur who knows them saves the search for an unmarked gate.
Entry to Argentina
Citizens of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union do not need a visa for tourist stays in Argentina, usually granted for up to 90 days.
