The airport at Hailey
Friedman Memorial sits on the south edge of Hailey, about 12 miles south of Ketchum and 13 miles from Sun Valley Resort. It is a single-runway field at roughly 5,300 feet, hemmed in by mountains on both sides, jointly owned by the City of Hailey and Blaine County. Atlantic Aviation is the only FBO and fuel provider on the field, so every private arrival comes through one building on the airport's west side. Seasonal airline flights use a small separate terminal.
Terrain and weather make SUN a demanding airport. Night and winter operations are restricted, and snow or low cloud can send aircraft to Twin Falls or Boise. Your flight department manages those rules; our job is to follow the aircraft rather than the schedule.
Pickup at the FBO, or on the ramp
By default the chauffeur parks in the FBO's landside lot and meets you at the lobby door, with Atlantic's line staff moving bags from the aircraft. You can ask for the car to come planeside when you book. That depends on Atlantic's ramp procedures and on your aircraft operator agreeing, and on busy winter days or while snow is being cleared the answer is usually no. Do private flights clear customs at Sun Valley?
Generally not. Friedman Memorial is not a routine airport of entry for international private arrivals, so aircraft coming from Canada, Mexico or overseas clear US Customs and Border Protection at another airport first and fly on to SUN as a domestic leg. When you land in Hailey, passports have already been checked. Included waiting still reflects the trip: 60 minutes from the actual landing when the journey began abroad, 30 minutes on domestic flights, then 15-minute blocks.

State Highway 75 is the only road through the valley, and a crash or deer strike can hold traffic for a while. Winter driving and closures are posted on the Idaho 511 system.
Skis, fly rods and summer luggage
Winter visitors bring skis and boot bags for Bald Mountain and Dollar Mountain; summer guests bring golf bags, bikes and fly rods for Silver Creek and the Big Wood River. A Standard Black SUV or Executive Black SUV seats six with six bags, which in practice suits four passengers with ski gear. Larger groups should split into two SUVs or book a Sprinter Van, with room for 12 passengers and 12 small bags. Please list bulky items in the booking notes so the right vehicle is sent.
Picking the vehicle class
- Standard Sedan: one or two guests with suitcases in summer, going to a Ketchum hotel.
- Luxury Executive Sedan: a quiet car for a meeting in town; best on dry roads.
- Executive First Class Sedan (Maybach): evenings at the Lodge or a private dinner, weather permitting.
- Standard Black SUV: four-wheel drive and cargo room, the winter default.
- Executive Black SUV: principals, families and guests with extra luggage.
- Sprinter Van: a house party or wedding group up to 12.

The July conference week and other peaks
Early July brings a well-known invitation-only media and technology conference to Sun Valley Resort, and for that week the ramp at Hailey is among the busiest in the country for private jets. Parking spaces are allocated in advance, planeside requests are rarely approved and arrivals stack up. Book cars early and keep tail numbers current. The Christmas and New Year holidays, Presidents' Day weekend and the summer music season on the resort's pavilion are the other peaks; the Visit Sun Valley calendar lists dates.
Discretion in a small valley
Guests often choose Sun Valley for its privacy. Chauffeurs do not carry name boards at the FBO unless asked, bookings can list initials, and trip details are shared only with the assigned operator. For homes in Elkhorn, Warm Springs or along the river, add the gate code or a caretaker's number so the chauffeur can call ahead. Crew and diversion days
Pilots overnighting in the valley usually stay in Hailey or Ketchum. Add a crew car to the same reservation so both vehicles follow one landing. If weather sends the aircraft to Twin Falls or Boise, tell the desk or ask your dispatcher to update the booking. A diversion is a new pickup address, so we confirm the new fixed fare before the car sets off.
Fare and cancellation terms
The fare includes the car, the chauffeur and the route to your address, with flight tracking and the included waiting described above. Hourly service has a three-hour minimum, handy for a day moving between Ketchum, the resort and a ranch south of Bellevue. Planning ranges are published on rates. Cancelling more than 72 hours out costs nothing; at 72 hours or less it is 10%, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less, or a no-show, 100%.
