- JR Central Tōkaidō Shinkansen: every train stops, linking Shinagawa with Shin-Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto, Shin-Osaka and beyond.

Takanawa exit or Konan exit?
A long central passage crosses the station and links its two sides. The Takanawa exit (west) faces the hotel hill: the Shinagawa Prince, The Prince Sakura Tower, the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa and, a little farther, the Tokyo Marriott at Gotenyama. The Keikyu station is on this side too. The Konan exit (east) opens onto the business district of office towers such as Shinagawa Intercity and Grand Commons, with Strings by InterContinental. Both sides have taxi pools and areas where pre-booked vehicles pick up. We tell you the side and meeting point by message before you arrive.
How the meeting works
On a Shinagawa booking, the standard service is curbside at the designated pick-up area, with the chauffeur waiting by the car. Chauffeurs do not pass the ticket gates or come to the platforms by default. A concourse meet at the Shinkansen gates is an add-on, and add-ons are only available in selected locations; the reservation engine shows whether it can be added. See meet and greet.
Your train and car number set the timing, and the chauffeur is timed to the actual arrival, so a delay caused by heavy rain in Shizuoka or a stop for an earthquake inspection moves the pickup with the train. On a Shinagawa booking, included waiting is 15 minutes from the real arrival, then 15-minute blocks.
Luggage and the Shinkansen
On the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, very large bags (three dimensions over 160 cm) need a seat reserved with an oversized-baggage area. Shinagawa is smaller than Tokyo Station and the walk from the Shinkansen gates to either exit is short and level, with lifts. Two travellers with full-size cases fit a Luxury Executive Sedan. For more luggage, choose a Standard Black SUV (six passengers, six bags); for a team with small bags, a Sprinter Van (12 passengers).

The district around the station
Shinagawa Station is actually in Minato ward, not Shinagawa ward, which lies just to the south. Many global companies have offices on the Konan side, and the hotel cluster on the Takanawa side hosts large conferences and banquets. One stop north, the new Takanawa Gateway station and its Takanawa Gateway City development add offices, a hotel and venues. Business travellers who fly in and out of Haneda often stay here for exactly that reason.
Intercity alternatives by car
From Shinagawa you are already on the south side of the city, so trips towards Kanagawa start quickly. Yokohama is 30 to 45 minutes, Kamakura about an hour, Hakone about 1 h 30, and the Izu Peninsula resorts around 2 to 2 h 30. Heading to Mount Fuji and the Fuji Five Lakes takes about 2 hours. Cancelling a Shinagawa pickup more than 72 hours ahead costs nothing. For Shinagawa pickups, inside 72 hours the charge is 10 %, inside 48 hours it is 50 %, and inside 24 hours, or if nobody shows, it is the full fare.
