One terminal, two arrivals halls
Cape Town International has a single integrated terminal building, with the international and domestic halls joined by a central section. International flights from Europe, the Gulf and the rest of Africa use the international side; flights to Johannesburg, Durban, George and other domestic points use the domestic side. The airport is run by Airports Company South Africa, and the two arrivals exits are a few minutes' walk apart, so the flight number in your booking tells the chauffeur which one to watch.
Where the pickup happens at CPT
The standard service is curbside collection at the area assigned to pre-arranged and chauffeur vehicles, usually in the forecourt or the parkade directly opposite the arrivals exits. When you have your bags, contact the chauffeur, who replies with the bay or row. The chauffeur does not come into the arrivals hall by default.
For a name-board greeting at the exit, add meet and greet when you book. Add-ons are only available in selected locations; the booking engine shows whether it applies to CPT on your date.
Immigration and customs timing
International passengers clear South African immigration in the terminal. It typically takes 15 to 40 minutes, with the longest queues in December and January, when long-haul flights from Europe arrive in quick succession, and on mornings when several overnight flights land together. Baggage then takes 15 to 25 minutes. Travellers connecting from an international flight at Johannesburg usually clear immigration there and arrive at CPT on the domestic side.
You get 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic arrivals. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute blocks, and the chauffeur only needs a message.
Drive times from Cape Town airport
The airport is about 20 km east of the city centre, off the N2. Most of the Peninsula and the Winelands are within an hour.

South Africa drives on the left. Weekday peaks run roughly 6:30 to 9 am and 4 to 6:30 pm on the N2 and N1, and summer weekends bring slow traffic along the Atlantic seaboard.
Wind, weather and road closures around Cape Town
Cape Town's weather affects the roads more than many visitors expect. The strong south-easterly wind, locally called the Cape Doctor, blows hardest from November to March and can close Chapman's Peak Drive and slow high-sided vehicles on the N2 near the airport. Winter storms between June and August bring heavy rain and occasional flooding on low-lying sections. Chapman's Peak is also a toll road and closes periodically for rockfall work. None of this changes your fare, but if you are heading to Hout Bay or Noordhoek, the chauffeur may route via Constantia Nek instead. For Table Mountain, the cableway closes in high wind, so allow flexibility on a sightseeing day.
Is there a train from Cape Town airport?
No. There is no rail link to the terminal. The MyCiTi airport bus runs from the forecourt to the Civic Centre in the city, and from there feeder routes serve other areas. For the Winelands, the Atlantic seaboard or a late arrival with luggage, a chauffeured car is the realistic choice.

A Cape Town airport transfer often becomes the first leg of a longer trip: a night in Franschhoek, a drive along Chapman's Peak, or the Garden Route towards Knysna, about 5 to 6 hours east. Book the transfer to your first stop, then use hourly chauffeur service, minimum three hours, for tasting days, or city tours and day trips for Cape Point.
