Border control, customs and arrival timing

Train and public transport from GVA
Geneva Airport's station, Geneve-Aeroport, sits next to the terminal, and trains reach Geneva Cornavin in about 6-7 minutes, with direct services to Lausanne and beyond. Schedules are on SBB. Arriving passengers can usually collect a free ticket for Geneva public transport from a machine in the baggage hall, valid for a limited time. For a light traveller staying near Cornavin it is excellent value. For resorts, luggage or late arrivals, a car is more practical.
Ski resort transfers from Geneva
Geneva is the main gateway for Chamonix, Courchevel, Verbier, Gstaad, Megeve, Val d'Isere and Crans-Montana. These are fixed-fare intercity transfers from the terminal to the chalet door, where road access allows. Departures from GVA
Allow about 90 minutes to two hours for European flights and three hours for long-haul. From a resort on a winter Saturday, add a generous buffer: leaving Courchevel five hours before a flight is not unusual. From the lakefront, 30-40 minutes before your target airport time is enough.

The lakefront, Cologny and the shores of Lake Geneva
Geneva's grand hotels line the Quai du Mont-Blanc and Quai Wilson on the right bank, 10-20 minutes from the terminal, while the residential communes of Cologny and Vandoeuvres on the left bank are about 20-25 minutes away. Along the Swiss shore, Nyon is 20-30 minutes from the airport and Rolle about 30-40 minutes, with the Lavaux vineyards beyond Lausanne. On the French side of the lake, Evian-les-Bains is roughly 60-75 minutes by road around the eastern end. Summer brings the Fetes de Geneve and busy weekends on the lake roads, and conferences at the Palexpo exhibition centre, right next to the airport, can crowd the terminal area. For chalet and villa addresses with private access, add gate codes and any parking notes to the booking so the chauffeur arrives prepared.
