How Zurich Airport is laid out
All passenger flights use a single terminal complex built around the Airport Centre. Gates are in three docks: Dock A and Dock B, close to the Airport Centre, and Dock E (the Midfield dock), reached by the underground Skymetro. Arriving passengers exit into Arrivals 1 or Arrivals 2 depending on the flight; the railway station and The Circle, the airport's newer business and hotel district, are a short walk away.

Swiss trains from the airport
Zurich Airport's station lies under the Airport Centre. Trains reach Zurich Hauptbahnhof in about 10-13 minutes, and direct services run to Winterthur, St. Gallen, Bern, Lucerne and beyond. Schedules are on SBB. Swiss rail is punctual and efficient, and for a light traveller going to the main station it is hard to beat. A car makes more sense for the lake shore, private residences, mountain resorts with luggage, families, and late arrivals.
Onward to Lucerne, Zug and the Alps
A large share of Zurich arrivals go straight to Lucerne, Davos, St. Moritz or Zug. These are booked as intercity transfers with a fixed price. Leaving on a flight from ZRH
Check-in and security at Zurich are efficient, but allow about two hours before European flights and two and a half to three hours for long-haul from Dock E. From Paradeplatz, a pickup about 45 minutes before your target airport time is usual outside peak hours.

Airport hotels, The Circle and nearby business parks
Plenty of Zurich visitors do business within a few kilometres of the runway. The Circle, next to the Airport Centre, houses offices, clinics, a convention centre and two Hyatt hotels, and the Radisson Blu stands beside the terminal. Glattpark and Opfikon, just south of the airport, and the Wallisellen and Kloten business parks are 5-15 minutes away by car. These short trips are booked like any other, with a fixed fare, and they suit travellers who arrive in the morning, meet near the airport and fly out the same evening. For longer stays on the lake, the Gold Coast villages of Kusnacht and Kilchberg are 30-40 minutes from ZRH. Swiss road rules are strict and speed limits are enforced closely, which is another reason the ranges in the drive-time table are realistic rather than optimistic.
