Where you meet the chauffeur
The standard service is curbside pickup at the area Taoyuan designates for pre-arranged and private cars, reached from the arrivals level of your terminal. When you have your bags, message the chauffeur for the exit and lane. The chauffeur waits outside with the car. If you would like a name-board welcome at the arrivals exit, add meet and greet when you book; add-ons are only available in selected locations.
Immigration and customs at TPE
Many nationalities can visit Taiwan visa-free for a set period, while others need a visa or an online travel authorisation; check the requirements with the National Immigration Agency before you fly. Foreign visitors can fill in the arrival card online in advance, which saves a few minutes in the hall. Allow 25 to 50 minutes from landing to the car on most days, longer in the evening bank when several flights from North America arrive. Waiting is included for 60 minutes from the actual landing, then charged in 15-minute blocks.
How far is Taoyuan from Taipei?
The airport is in Dayuan District, Taoyuan, about 40 kilometres west of central Taipei. The usual route is National Freeway 2 to National Freeway 1, or Freeway 3 for the southern districts. Taiwan drives on the right.

Taoyuan Airport MRT or car?
The Taoyuan Airport MRT express train runs from both terminals to Taipei Main Station in about 35 to 40 minutes, where you can check bags in for many airlines on departure. It is quick and good value for light travellers staying near Taipei Main Station. For Xinyi, Neihu or the hotels in Da'an, you would need another MRT line or taxi, so with luggage a car door to door is usually simpler.

Semiconductor and technology visits
Taiwan's technology industry draws a steady flow of engineers, buyers and executives, many heading straight from the airport to Hsinchu Science Park or to Neihu. A car can take you directly, and a full day of visits can be booked as hourly chauffeur service with a three-hour minimum. Multi-vehicle supplier programmes and corporate roadshows are planned by a coordinator and confirmed in writing, and corporate accounts offer monthly invoicing and traveller profiles.
Taoyuan or Songshan?
Taipei's downtown airport, Songshan, handles domestic flights and short routes to Tokyo Haneda, Seoul Gimpo, Shanghai Hongqiao and a few others. It is only 15 to 25 minutes from Xinyi. If you are connecting from a Taoyuan arrival to a Songshan departure, allow at least 50 to 80 minutes by car.
High-speed rail connections
The Taiwan High Speed Rail's Taoyuan station is 15 to 25 minutes from the airport, and trains run south to Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung. A chauffeur can drop you there, or at Taipei Main Station if you prefer to start from the city.
For travellers heading to Taichung or further south with plenty of luggage, a direct car is also an option. Taichung is typically 90 minutes to two hours from the airport on National Freeway 1 or 3, and the trip is booked as a fixed-fare intercity transfer with the same waiting allowance as a city run.
Typhoons and the seasons
Taiwan's typhoon season runs roughly from June to October. Storms can close the airport or delay flights for a day or more; flight tracking lets the chauffeur re-time to the new arrival, and the 24/7 desk can move a booking if your flight is cancelled. Winter is cool and damp in Taipei, and spring brings the plum rains in May and June.
Where visitors to Taipei stay
Xinyi, around Taipei 101 and the World Trade Center, has the largest concentration of international hotels, offices and department stores. Zhongshan, north of Taipei Main Station, holds several long-established hotels along Zhongshan North Road, and Da'an, around Dunhua and Ren'ai roads, mixes offices with quieter residential streets. Neihu, north-east of the centre, is where many technology companies have their Taipei offices. Give the chauffeur the hotel or building name in the booking, since Taipei addresses use lane and alley numbers that are easier to find by name.
Late arrivals and departures
The Taoyuan Airport MRT stops running around midnight, and some long-haul flights from North America land late in the evening, so a pre-booked car is the dependable option after hours. On clear roads the drive to Xinyi can take about 40 minutes. For departures, allow two and a half to three hours before an international flight when leaving central Taipei in the afternoon peak.
